I am at the point getting my Imperial on the road where I have to remove the starter. I have a few questions:

How do you get the starter out of the car? There is a stud in an inconvenient location and I can't get a wrench on it.
Are there any other big block mopar starters that will work with a 1959-1961 413 V8?
Is it worth having a shop rebuild my core, or will they just clean it up and put a "reman" sticker on it?

You can buy a new starter at the auto parts store and it just takes some time to wiggle it out of the tight spot it's in

Starter questions usually go in the electrical section. I put a Quality Hi-Torque starter in mine. It works really well. Look at the last post on this page:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=66444&...

If interested, you can get them on Ebay. According to them, they only work in '59-'60 RB motors. But these starters are designed to just change the face plate to mount them to some other motor or some other configuration. So you might be able to use it on something else by just rotating the face plate, or worst case, by purchasing a different mounting plate.

I bought a new starter from Napa for my 65 New Yorker, 413 eng and put it in. I can't imagine any difference between 61 and 65. Jerry

big difference between the 1961 and 1965 and definitely not interchangeable.
the 1961 still has the cast iron transmission while the 1965 uses the alum 727 torqueflite

9 tooth vs 10 tooth and completly off. iirc, after 61 only manual bb cars up to 64 used starters that interchange with pre 62 bb cars.

According to them, even '61 is different from '60, although I can't imagine why. I don't see a listing from them for a '61, so they probably just didn't realize they were the same, or else there is a minor difference between them.

According to them, even '61 is different from '60, although I can't imagine why. But they did research it out quite thoroughly so I do trust them. But like I said, it may be a pretty simple change, like the electrical connection location or plate rotation etc.

yes, they changed the bb starter style/manufacturer for 61 for some reason, but they interchange with no alterations.

My 1966 D200's have direct drive starters, that look alot like 1961 Chrysler starters.
