We're finishing our 1957 Spitfire 354 build and I'm wondering whether to buy a new carburetor or trying to fix the original one.

It has the standard 2bbl and the engine is also built to original specs but I'm replacing points with Pertronix Ignitor III (which i have had only good experiences with my other rides).

We're going to do some longer roadtrips to other countries with the car so I guess a new carb would be a more carefree option. Also sticking with 2bbl because good mpg is preferred.

My question is, which way to go and what make & model of a carburetor you would suggest?

This might be worth considering?

Considering the cost of a proper rebuild then an efi of some sort is a good option and certainly more 'care-free'. Short of the efi route you might also consider
using a newer/different 2-bbl that could be bought as a rebuilt unit although a bit more involved to install....time vs money kinda deal. Since you are in Europe
then perhaps something like a Weber 32/36 DFEV Carburetor with electric choke would work. Just a thought.
