Extreme Veteran Posts: 504 | Does anyone have a good recommendation the best way to complete my 57 Adventurer Hubcap Restoration? I just had them powder coated in a very close match gold by a local shop.(after being polished) Now I need to duplicate the factory blackout on the hubcap center...I am considering using a semi flat stick on 3M material trimmed around the "DES" logo. Or should attempt to mask the area and paint it? Any constructive ideas would be appreciated! Pic is for reference only. Veteran Posts: 145 | I did this one with a rattle can of semi gloss paint and about two hours with an exacto knife and masking tape. It's not the same quality as a factory original, but very presentable. (sf emblems 008.JPG) Attachments ---------------- sf emblems 008.JPG (121KB - 177 downloads)

Regular Posts: 65 | This will also sound silly - But it works. Toothpaste is great for masking as well. Really you just want anything you can spread that the paint won't stick too.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 504 | Here is the result of my recent completed 1957 Desoto Adventurer powder coating experiment...I think they turned out very nice. They may be slightly different (darker perhaps) then the original anodizing. I ended up using 3M semi flat black tape on the DES center, applied by my local lettering shop.
