Location: So. Cal | Last week I found out what it is like to lose an entire circuit in your brakes while driving. This is the first time it has happened to me. I was driving my '61 Lancer wagon around in LA, when I lost a lot of the stopping power in the brakes. I was still able to stop the car, but it took a lot longer to do and didn't seem to get much better by pushing harder on the pedal. I pulled over to find that the front part of the reservoir for the rear brakes was completely empty. I don't know where the fluid went! The inner rear tires were still dry, the brake hose was dry - for the part I could see, and I couldn't find a leak. Maybe it was leaking out the back of the master, but I didn't immediately find the leak. I refilled the cylinder and the brakes came back for the rest of the day for me to drive all the way home with. They also still work fine 3 days later and don't seem to have lost any fluid. Weird, because it seemed to suddenly go out too, not gradual at all. I'll check it out more thoroughly before I take it out again. But I guess that separate circuit master cylinder design saved my butt for the first time.
