Well this is embarassing. I post the 56 Dodge bulb list months ago and discover today (June 6/18) that it doesn't list the Emergency Brake "ON!!" warning light bulb. Anybody happen to know what it is? Needs to be a two contact, single filament with a non-bulbous glass bit. Could be a 1004 like this one but I am not sure. My dome light bulb was gone when I got the car and the map light is too difficult to get at to steal the bulb to try in the eBrake warning light lamp holder.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Hmm...still need an answer on the eBrake warning light bulb. I just went out and bought a package of two 1004 bulbs. Base is sort of right, single filament, *BUT* the metal lip is a bit too big and the glass part is definitely too big. I can use the bulbs for my dome light so no loss (not much cost anyway) but it doesn't solve my problem - lack of eBrake warning light. Anybody? What I bought:

Extreme Veteran Posts: 308 Location: Newcastle Australia | The next size down from a 1004 would be 5 watt. I'd suggest the bulb will be a 12822CP (Phillips part no) Base BA15D 12 Volt 5 Watt This is a 15mm base bulb and typically the dash bulbs are only 9mm base. This seems too big for its purpose. My warning light has a Phillips 12929 bulb. Base BA9s 12 volt 4 watt Edited by lozrox58 2018-06-09 8:25 AM (12822.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 12822.jpg (12KB - 486 downloads)

Base BA9s 12 volt 4 watt 12929 is the right shape but only one contact and too small On the other hand, the Philips 12822CP is the right shape and it has two BA15D contacts. WINNER!! Thanks very much! Now to find one (two)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Old Ray - 2018-06-09 3:59 PM I'm thinking that might be 1004 GE ? Tried a 1004 yesterday. And a "90" today. Both have too much glass "flare". It needs to be straight like this: Edited by 56D500boy 2018-06-09 6:17 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Thanks to George B. and Gary P., fellow 56 Dodge owners, they checked their eBrake warning light bulbs and both said "90". George said "GE90" and sent a photo showing the bulb. So based on George's photo of the bulb, I went out to one of our local car parts stores and asked for a "GE 90" two pin, single filament, bulb. I was shown the rack of GE bulbs and found a GE90 straight away. Looked right so I bought it. Two bulbs for $1.50 CDN (including taxes). Good stuff. See attached. When I got home, I tried to put it in. Problems. The holder is so deep that once I get the bulb in, I don't have enough purchase on the glass bit to turn it enough to lock it in on the two pins. I tried needle-nosed pliers but nope. So for the short term, I just put it and installed the cover, bezel, etc. It works. But since the bulb is currently touching the plastic lens, it will melt the plastic if I forget to release the brake for very long. Strangely, the light is on even with the key in the accessory position. See attached wiring diagram - I though that the bulb would only be on when the ignition is in RUN and the brake is on, not with ACCESSORY (radio, etc). Bottomline: I seek opinions as to how to turn this GE 90 bulb and lock it in. UPDATE: My neighbour lent me a 1/2" diameter suction cup (originally from some toy) which I used to turn the bulb and lock it in. Now I just need to change the wiring so the bulb doesn't come on on ACC, just RUN.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Since I found the correct GE 90 bulb for the handbrake warning light, I have become annoyed with the fact that either I re-installed the wires on the ignition switch incorrectly after I took it to a locksmith to get and ignition key made back in Sept 2016 *OR* the factory wired it strangely. Bottomline is the when I have pulled the handbrake on, the light comes on when the key is either in the RUN position (which is fine) *BUT* also in the ACC (accessory) position, i.e. I am parked but have the brake on and the key turned to ACC so I play the radio with the engine off. I can be working on the car and forget that the handbrake light is on for hours. The bulb gets very hot and might be melting the red lens on the warning light. I need to move the white wire to the handbrake light from ACC to IGN (run). I think this photo taken before the switch was removed is correct, i.e. I must have re-installed it incorrectly (the red circle is for the wire terminal that works for my radio, ACC or RUN)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Found out (by tracing the wire) that the eBrake warning light 12V on my 56 Dodge Custom Royal was actually connected to the back of the temperature gauge and that all the electrical-based gauges are alive in both ACC and RUN so no wonder the eBrake light was on so much. Disconnected the wire from the temp gauge and pulled it back to the eBrake. Then I fed it across to the "IGN" post of the ignition switch. Now the eBrake light only works when I have the key in RUN, which is what *I* wanted. Edited by 56D500boy 2019-05-06 11:14 PM

Member Posts: 17 | I know there is a special tool that is used to install the bulbs on the Torqueflight pushbutton transmission housing. I remember seeing it in my 57 manual. Maybe it was used on that bulb as well.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | . To supplement the Dodge list, here is the comparable but more extensive 1956 Chrysler bulb list with more details, including wattage. Might be handy. I see it listed the illusive "90" for the handbrake warning light.
