Working to connect my steering gearbox to the idler arm. Maybe a silly question. I have it connected enough to have the large nut started and not sure if I should tighten the nut further and that will draw it in or would that break the nut? My Chrysler guru passed away a couple of years ago and he would have known. This is on my 56 Chrysler.

Put a large deep socket on the stud and tap it on, gently, to get enough threads started on the nut to avoid ruining the the threads, don't beat it on, you can damage the internals.

Right, the nut is started. Should I keep turning to draw it together, or put some lube on it to help?

Lube is ok, but do you have all the threads engaged?

With the nut started, the threads are engaged.

Are the threads engaged all the way into the nut?
