Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | This brewery might have an interesting name to some? If they start to bottle, I am going to ask them IF they would have any interest in using my car on their label. Just a thought! Later, Karl. For the brewery to be interested your wagon would at least have to display an OE "Suburban" name plate on your wagon. Most people associate "Suburban" with the big Chevy passenger truck seeing as it is into it's 12th generation http://www.langdalefamily.com/suburbanhistory5.html The 1960 Chevy Suburban was the 5th generation. But hey, you can always ask.

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | I agree Chevy is the brand most people today would associate with that model name, but Chrysler products with the Suburban name go back to at least 1925. If I owned the brewery and decided to use a car for advertising, the '60 Plymouth wins hands down!

I'm looking for a reference for 1925. So far, all I have found is: "Plymouth's first official station wagon was offered in April of 1934. This time the factory got involved -- they shipped the chassis to the U.S. Body & Forging Company plant at Tell City, Indiana. There U.S.B.F. built and installed a station wagon body on the Deluxe PE chassis. ...Options on the other PE models such as automatic clutch and free wheeling transmissions were not available and the rear bumper was deleted, for which the buyer got a small credit--bumpers were still optional in '34. The seats were upholstered in Spanish grain leather, all three of them. The rear two were removable for greater cargo carrying capacity. Glass was used in the front doors but the rest of the openings were covered with storm curtains. The name for this new creation was a mouthful-- officially it was known as the Plymouth Westchester Semi-Sedan Suburban." REFERENCE: https://www.allpar.com/history/plymouth/wagons.html 1938: From what I can find, the first mention of "Suburban" in Plymouth brochure was not in 1938 but in 1939: Edited by 56D500boy 2018-01-27 8:16 PM

Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | Yeah, not mine. I recently saw a 1960 Plymouth Suburban for sale with the "SUBURBAN" scrip on the upper quarter panel. I know it shows one in the parts book, but the one I saw was the only one I've even seen. I don't believe there is any quarter panel "SUBURBAN" scrip listed in the parts book[23-34-238]. I wished I could remember where I saw the picture. It was either here, Ebay, or Craigslist? Were there any 60 Plymouth Suburbans that had the SUBURBAN scrip on them? To the best of my knowledge, it was on the years before and after but not 1960?

Extreme Veteran Posts: 406 Location: Hilltown, PA | Hey Karl - I assume you know that here in PA you can use a "vintage" tag as long as the DOT approves the number, and that in 1060 station wagons got tags that had "Suburban" as the identifier . . . https://www.ebay.com/i/282818887347?chn=ps Gregg

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | From The Dodge Story, by Thomas A. McPherson: “Turning out special station wagon type vehicles known as Suburbans for the Dodge chassis was the firm of J.T. Cantrell of Huntington, NY. The versions built by Cantrell for 1925 seated eight passengers in three rows of seats and had four side doors. The body was made of the finest seasoned oak, ash, and maple and was the true forerunner of the latter day station wagon. Cantrell used the basic Dodge commercial car chassis as the basis for the vehicles.”

Canada - Rocky Mountains | Probably not relevant but, my '56 two door Plodge wagon has two SUBURBAN emblems on the rear quarter panels, one is broken and there was a spare in the glove box but it's a little bigger and different script. Can't see both sides at the same time anyway. Pixs available upon request.

Expert Posts: 1348 Location: Valley Forge, Pa. | Hey Gregg, I won some 1960 SUBURBAN Pa. tags on Ebay a few years ago. Talking with a tag collector, he said these plates are really rare. Everything about these tags is interesting to me, especially having a 60 Suburban. Like you said, Pa. only stamped their plates 1 year[1960] with "SUBURBAN", they are near mint, there are 2 of them and that's unusual with Pa. being one of the few states that does not use a front tag. I did check and this tag # is not being used but I doubt I could ever use them. The reason there are 2 as I found out is they are for Press Photographers and apparently, Pa. still uses plates that start with PP for press photographers. I've thought about going to old tags but I don't like the restrictions and with a vintage tag on my car and I could only expect to get pulled over by cops not up on the laws. Later, Karl.
