I'm not a Plymouth guy, but my book, Catalog of American Car ID Numbers 1950-1959" implies that the 4th character letter you refer to would mean E (Evansville), L (Los Angeles), N (Newark), and W (Windsor) assembly plant. If there is not a letter, it was assembled in Detroit.

This excerpt from the 1955-58 Mopar Parts Catalogue pdf backs up what you are saying. NOTE To the original poster: There is a sub-forum dedicated to VINs and Data plates, you should probably repost there along with a photo of the data plate. The Data Plate is what shows the info that can be decoded. The VIN number is just a serial number to us (only Fiat-Chrysler America (FCA) historical is potentially able to run just the VIN number and return with meaningful info. Whereas, some people here (not me) can interpret the info on a data plate, based on experience).

Based on your VIN LP284376 it appears to be a Detroit-made V8 58 Plymouth.
