there are two types of Thompsons. one looks like a revolver chamber the other has a like a spring loaded chamber. The revolver Thompson is not really rebuildable(just a few seals needed) and it the rarest of the pumps I believe. It also looks like if you keep the oil clean it would never wear out. I like the Thompson because they are more compact. The Vickers has that big chamber up top. here is the Thompson revolver type. maybe the Thompson was more expensive than they Vickers? They went back and forth from Vickers and thompsons. http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11168&... I honestly think the Thompsons are the better quality pumps. I think the vickers is an older style. Here is the "alternate" later thompson rebuild kit. You can see it does away with the "revolver" and I would think maybe this is the best Thompson design? I think they used this design from 57 and up for some years. Rebuild kits are easy to find and its easy to rebuild. The revolver thompson only need a few seals at the seal shop. I think the vickers rebuild kits are easy to find also. I think the vickers design started out in the 40's.
