the back is lowered 3". im letting pb blaster work its magic on the torsion bar hardware before i crank the front down. the rockers are solid but the rear quarter is rotted out and so is the bottom of the decklid. and the floor boards need some lovin. and the front fenders need some hammer and dolly work.

One FL car I could really dig is exactly what you have there ...
a boring beige 61 Pioneer 4 door sedan. So unsexy it is just
awesome ! I never liked the add-on tail lights, so those would
have to go. I'd run blackwalls and dog dishies to play up the
stripper/boring statement, but damm ... that is cool. Love it !

My ugly-azz boring stripper sedan :

thanks man! yea its one of those red headed stepchild four doors that arent worth anything restored so you may as well customize it. i had the thought of removing the lower tailights and frenching in the uppers. just a thought at this point though. but i picked it up for $995 bucks

i helped a buddy build this one a few years ago. someone posted it to the FL forum and got a whole bunch of negative comments back before it was painted. but it was a fun car and have had a soft spot for 61s ever since.

yes its in fairly decent shape and mostly complete. the factory steering wheel was cracked and missing chunks so i cut the center out and drilled and tapped it for the three spoke mooneyes metalflake wheel, since grant no longer makes adapters for the FL cars and hasnt for many years

Nice project. The '61 Dodge is likely my favorite from '61 with it's very unique frumpy style. Rather than frenching in the uppper taillights, I think it would look better and compliment the style if you were to extend the lower taillights close to the license plate along the bottom valence. I think that would look pretty good that way and not detract from the unique fin structure as much as frenching the uppers would.

Oh...and I would also just sand that rust down a bit and clear coat it. A rusty looking 4dr sedan with power & handling would have a cool factor all it's own.

thats not a bad idea powerflite. i like that. i need to sketch out a few different options to see what i like most. as for the patina ive never been a big fan of that craze. especially since i plan on nosing decking and shaving the handles.

im not a patina fan either. im itching just to at least get it in primer so its a solid color. but i think for the trim i want to find seneca trim that stops on the rear door and fill the holes on the front door. i dont like how the front fender lines dont jive with the side trim.

I was driving the car daily for a while, the then ammeter smoke show happened.so that was a wrench in the spokes. But I knew I needed to get it going again. So I yarded all the wiring out so we can start from scratch. Then covid hit and I was out of work and low on funds. So doing big upgrades wasn't gonna happen for a while. So I pulled the front clip apart to paint and clean up in the mean time

Once I got back to work I ordered a brake booster, and it's been down hill from there since. That was around May of 2021. Then i starting hitting junkyards and ordering parts. Bought a set of aspen spindles in Fresno, john at big M had a deck lid for me, found a nice 8.25 rearend from a 73 Cuda out near bakersfield.. then i ordered an 9+3 wiring harness from rebel wire. So the car is rewired now, brakes are all plumbed, and no I just need to finish getting the front end together so it's drivable again

Once the front end is together and radiator is back in I will probably jump head first into repairing the floor pans

I am relieved to see that you have a nicer steering wheel now...and that you didn`t use the hub with the three tiny holes almost drilled through the side of the hub. I don`t think that would have
stayed tight.

I love following your work. I have a cousin to your Dodge, my 1964 880. Here is the album of my work so far..

An ammeter/wiring fire sidelined my car in 1975. My parents bought it in 1969, and when it quit I was only 11 and couldn't help my dad much. I rescued it from a friend's salvage yard about 4 years ago. I love these old cars, summer cruising is like driving an old memory.

Hey norm! I absolutely love those 880s that's a car I would like to have myself. That's awesome that you were able to get it back after all those years and keep it in the family. You almost never hear about someone getting back their actual car, but finding a replacement rather.

Thanks for the info! It is Hamtramck built. There's no trunk light on this car, but it did have the windshield washer set up so that may be

Not sure how I missed this thread! You've got a great kustom going together there. Really enjoying your attention to detail on the wiring and suspension. Car is a knockout already, and only going to get better. Nice job!
