I'd like to go to one of those sometime!

Did anyone here go to San Diego last year?

I flew out to San Diego last summer for the convention. It was a delightful, delovely time! I plan to attend the convention this year and am planning to drive my '59 Fireflite.

Unfortunately the last one I went to was 94 in Baltimore (Timonium). At that time ,before internet, it was also a great place to pick up parts and cars. My fondest memories were meeting some of the Old club members who had built their Desotos without spending a fortune and they loved their cars. I haven't rejoined because it seems to be a shadow of it's origin.

That's true Bill, like many of the clubs. Everyone is getting old and the young'uns are lacking in interest.
Hoping to get another DeSoto myself, but unless the Nat. meet is nearby (I nominate Lake George!) I can't go too far anymore.

Gonna try and make this one. I think the last one I went to was in '08. If I do go I'll bring the 57 sedan.

Just a reminder - August 22 to the 26th. The National DeSoto Club Convention will be in the beautiful Ozarks of Branson, MO where the fun never ends. Not too late to register for the 90th birthday celebration of DeSoto's introduction with the 1929 model introduced in 1928 and ending with the Forward Look 1961 model. Please see the above for the registration form (DeSotos only).

I couldn't go either, but there were a lot of wonderful pictures posted on the NDC Facebook group page to let me see what I missed. David Frank is the photographer for these sample shots.

Great event all the way around from beginning to end - about 180 members and 48 DeSotos from the USA and Canada. Always something to do for everyone and many came early and a few remained a day or two later. All I can say is whoever missed this one that was thinking about coming, missed one helluva great venue.

A few pics are posted but the NDC Adventurer Convention Issue will have all the highlights. Of great interest was Smitty's restoration shop as seen in one of the pics that David Frank posted above. Folks just loved seeing all the DeSotos in various stages of being restored.

Next year the 34th Convention will be held in McPherson, KS - another opportunity centrally located in the midwest.

McPhearson, KS; isn't that where that school that teaches car restoration is located? Seems like there's something cooking then for next year's convention.

McPherson, KS is where McPherson College is which does teach automobile restoration. It should be of interest to all the attending members for sure. Plan ahead and save some time to enjoy the 34th National Convention. As you may know, Jay Leno is a supporter of the college.

33rd National DeSoto Club Meet - Branson
The convention was held in Branson, Missouri on September 22-26, 2018. The convention was fun, we saw many friends that we see too rarely, and the Ozark Mountains are beautiful. But Branson has become a sort of mini-Las Vegas - too commercialized, too loud and too crowded. It used to be a beautiful little town tucked into the hills. C'est la vie.

The above was printed in an article that I think is very interesting and living in Branson and hosting the convention, I find it a bit inaccurate. First of all the National DeSoto Club convention in Branson was in August and not September - which is not big deal but just for clarification. Secondly, Branson is not a place for rest and relaxation (as was well publicised in all the preliminary materials for registration) - it is for fun, excitement, noise, and activities beyond reproach, period! Maybe 40 years ago Branson was the beautiful little town tucked into the hills but things change over time as did Branson. Millions of folks from all over the country and world come to Branson each year for what reason? Fun, enjoyment, and excitement! Branson is still a beautiful little city and stretches for miles into the wilderness of nature. But that is NOT what the heart of Branson is known for. Just sayin'.

I think the convention in Branson was a huge success from all the comments that I have experienced verbally and the "Thank Yous" in writing. There were about 180 members and 48 DeSotos, more than many recent nationals - it was an extremely popular event. And if I have the opportunity to host another DeSoto National Convention in Branson, I'll do it in a heartbeat.

The time is coming for another mid-west DeSoto National Convention to be held in Hutchinson, KS just north of Wichita. July 16 - 21 are the dates and for more information, contact Tim Bowers, chairman, by phone 620-245-4599 or email ndconvention2019@gmail.com.
