Member Posts: 33 | The bearing in my water pump belt idler pulley is shot. It looks like the bearing comes out from the back but I am not certain . Is there any service that can rebuild (replace the bearing) this pulley or can anyone provide me with a part number and source for the bearing ? If I knew the process I would re-bearing it myself but at this point I don't want to damage the pulley by guessing. The application is a 354 hemi in a 1956 Imperial.

Expert Posts: 2196 Location: Muskego, WI | I will try dig mine up and have a look at it tonight. I converted my 354 hemi to use the water pump, cross over and accessories of a 392 hemi so I no longer use the idler.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | I am curious about this so I've tried to find the PN for the bearing. I might have been successful (or not): Engine bay photos followed by Parts Diagrams and a Part number list for Section 7-04-1 in the diagram. The bearing *might* be in Section 7-04-14. No guarantee. (Sorry). Member Posts: 33 | Thanks for taking the time check . 56D500 boy good info and that's a nice looking engine compartment . My hope is that someone will see this thread here and has encountered this before and will have the info I need. I presently have the pulley assembly face down on my bench with a mix of STP and oil covering the top . It seem to be slowly seeping in and quieting down the bearing, we'll see what happens.

Not saying that this is what you need but it is a common bearing used in many engine accessories. It's only about $6 so buying one to try isn't going to be the end of the world: Here is one application (circa 1992-97 Audi belt tensioners but it is also used in many generators and alternators): Edited by 56D500boy 2018-01-17 11:47 AM
