Can anyone help? Thanks Congrats on the AAJ Disk brake conversion. Please document the change with photos and post them up on the forum for the rest of us to see. As for the "hub", one of us (you or I) is confused. As I understand it, there is no "hub" per se on these cars, just the tapered axle, as shown in the diagram below. That being the case, the axles were common to 55-56 Plymouths, Dodges, Desotos and Chryslers (not the 300). PN 1328 382 I got axles from Don Petty in Arizona - try him: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=63800&... REFERENCE: http://www.jholst.net/55-58-parts-manual/rear-axle.pdf (PN is on page 14/16). Expert 5K+ Posts: 9900 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Shep - 2017-12-12 7:22 AM He may mean the mounting hub in the brake drum? But how does that help him with a disc brake install? I was hoping that he would respond to the diagram that I have posted above and clarify what exactly is needed. Expert Posts: 3393 Location: Chestertown, NY ( near Lake George) | Agreed, but the term hub in that location usually means the axle /wheel mount hub, not clear as you said.

All I will say is on a 55-56 Mopar (and maybe more) there is a) the rear axle assembly has two tapered axles with nuts to hold the drum on and b) the rear drums have studs in them and an integral hub inside and that the hub contains inner and outer bearings. There is no separate hub like non-tapered rear axles which have drums that can be pulled off and have no studs or bearings in them. NOT like this: Edited by 56D500boy 2017-12-12 12:22 PM

Member Posts: 16 | Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. It appears the correct term should have been Hub and Drum. I'll try to post a picture of the one from the right rear. (55 Rear.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 55 Rear.jpg (164KB - 203 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9900 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Tride55 - 2017-12-14 11:10 AM I'm sure the mistake is on my part. This is the part I'm looking for. I thought it was called a hub. I wouldn't call it a mistake per se. That *IS* the hub. The issue is I don't think that you could ever buy just the hub separate from the drum, i.e. it was one hub and drum assembly (see parts list below). I think that you have to find a brake drum of the correct size and then cut the drum away from the hub to accomplish what you seek. As for sources of parts, I would try these, probably in this order: 1. Big M Automotive - California - John Fowlie - (530) 473-2225 http://www.bigmauto.com/ bought several things from John 2. French Lake Auto - Minnesota (might be snowy there now): 1-320.274.8497 / 320.286.2560 http://www.frenchlakeautoparts.com/ bought a couple of things from them 3. Wild Cat Mopars - south of Portland 1-503-668-7786 http://www.wildcatmopars.com/ Check out their 40's and 50's project cars: http://www.wildcatmopars.com/blank-ryrpa Bought from them (Vanessa) 4. Moore's Auto Salvage - Rapid City, South Dakota 57701 • (605)348-4926 http://www.mooresautosalvage.com/ haven't bought from them Other's include Don Petty in Phoenix who shows up here from time to time. Good luck Dave F. (RearHubAndDrumPartNumbers.jpg) Attachments ---------------- RearHubAndDrumPartNumbers.jpg (220KB - 199 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 360 | That is a hub... its the drum hub. I don't know of any new ones being made so you may need to look around for old used drums that contain the hub. New drums that I have seen do not have the hub with them. When I did my rear conversion (the how to thread I made) I later ended up buying a used set of complete rear drums for the hubs. During my custom conversion I made a mess of one hub, still functional but a little ugly.

One thing that I should have (could have) mentioned is that the left and right hub and drums are exactly the same except for one thing: The studs for the wheels, one has right hand threaded studs, the other left hand threaded studs. Studs can be pressed out and pressed in. For example, you might be able to find a right rear hub and drum assembly but not a left one. No problem. Just press out the studs from the two hubs and install the left side studs in the formerly right side hub that you found. (This requires a press, not a hammer). Again, good luck.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 360 | Tride55 - 2017-12-14 12:17 PM Thank you for guidance. I will be replacing the studs as part of the conversion. Do it right and use the swag tool or cut the stud as close as possible to the hub and grind it down some so you prevent damaging the splines on the hub. The stud splines are such that if you just press them out you will widen the splines on the hub causing a loose fit on new studs. This is another reason I bought another set of complete drums, I pressed and hammered the first set out and widened the splines so the new studs are a little sloppy. Live and learn I guess, still functional but no reason to damage the hub just destroy the old studs and save that valuable hub. If you cut them close to the hub the studs will easily come out without damaging the hub.
