did you buy the one at Tom Mack?

if you have a title you can have one made, its not cheap and you need the title in your name.

You have a body number but no data plate? What does the body number look like.

Go to YOUR state Motor Vehicle Dept. and get the facts for your state. They differ place to place. I had a '60 Imperial with no title and no VIN on the hinge pillar. The hidden number on the frame was obliterated by rust. It took a year and research but eventually the State of Texas issued me a new VIN sticker (yes, imprinted vinyl sticker) with the car's ORIGINAL VIN on it and a new title.

In most states they will tell you to f off, you shouldn't buy a car without a vin plate and tell you to enjoy your big paper weight.

If the car lived its life in Texas maybe they had old.records, but most states have trashed that info... Contacting the state just alerts them to put you on a list. They will be like "oh you again? We had you on the list as f off, so f off forever"...

No, Mike, it was a California car and not every state worker is a jerk. A lot of what you "get" at a state office depends on what you walk up to the counter with in the way of attitude, research, and humility. And California did absolutely nothing to help me. I did use a title service in Texas to help me with the technicalities.

The question that you have to answer first if you are missing these things is - Why? Is the VIN missing because they were lazy and lost it or is it missing because they used that VIN on some other car? You may do an enormous amount of research and probing just to find out that the correct VIN is riding around on some other car now and you are SOL. But if you have a valid title, you can always use that to get a new VIN plate made up for it.

It was obvious which car it was. They had hopes a vin tag was present in the all the boxes of stuff that was there. As stated by others, your local DMV will be the decider of what you can do.

true check out the info, like I said do your own research first. Be wary of tipping them off as they basically black ball you.

search like crazy about your state, maybe even talk to a lawyer? does it even have a title?

i dont think youll find a vin on the body. Not sure if even 60's had the vin stamped, just the engine number.

If not you need title some where, a guy on facebook said he had two 60 dodge convert titles... of course this is "illegal", im not condining it but Ive seen a mecum auction or two

I had this problem way back in the late seventies with a '59 New Yorker. I was denied the car inspection due to the missing VIN.
So, I went to one of the local junk-yards and bought 5-7 VIN's from other MoPar cars for a cheap price.
Then I carefully cut the VIN's so that I could get the correct number sequence - the pieces was glued together in a matrix with epoxy from the backside.
I had to do some minor grinding, then I mounted my "new" VIN and painted it over with the same color as the car.
This homemade VIN passed the first inspection and all the other yearly inspections as long as I had the car. Since the car is still in traffic, I presume that there never was any problems....

no title . bill of sale with a body number. supposed to be a VIN number somewhere underneath. but it has been cut out and repaired and also primed . didn't want to spend a lot of time crawling around under it for nothing. why did I buy it? once was a beautiful car and will be again.

When I rebuilt my dodge, I didn't find a vin except the one made up here in Australia that was stamped on the front subframe
near where the steering box would be on your left steer car

My 60 Plymouth has no tags at all on it, and same again, I have looked everywhere and there is no numbers on it, but I
do have the title and import papers with the numbers on it as well as the license plate that it had when it was in Washington
