Member Posts: 19 | I'm parting out a 56 DeSoto Firedome two-door hardtop and need to know if the four pieces of stainless steel trim around the exterior of the rear window will fit on the exterior rear window of a 55 Chrysler 300? A Forum member needs this trim, but I want to make sure it will fit his '55 300. Thanks for your help.

Member Posts: 19 | WOW! 67 views and no one knows? Don't see you guys stumped often! Does anyone have a parts book that might be able to cross reference numbers for the trim? Do they each use the same glass and rubber seal? I'm no expert on these cars... Thanks for any help! I don't want to sell some one the wrong parts.

Does anyone have a parts book that might be able to cross reference numbers for the trim? Do they each use the same glass and rubber seal? I'm no expert on these cars... Based on the Mopar 55-58 Parts Manual pdf (Crtl F Searchable) (which you could own for free) there is a good chance that Desoto sedan rear window trims will fit a Chrysler sedan rear window. As for coupe to sedan or sedan to coupe, the likelihood seems to decrease, at least based on the part numbers. Coupe to coupe increases the chances (maybe). A 55 300 is a C68-300. A 56 Firedome is a S23. A 56 300B is a C72-300 See below: Edited by 56D500boy 2017-10-29 6:00 PM (55-56RearWindowOuterMouldingPNs.jpg) (55-56RearWindowOuterMouldingPNs_2.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 55-56RearWindowOuterMouldingPNs.jpg (194KB - 114 downloads) 55-56RearWindowOuterMouldingPNs_2.jpg (202KB - 119 downloads)

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Yes, the 2 door hardtop rear window glass is the same for all 1955 and 1956 DeSoto, Chrysler and Imperial models. As well, the trim around the hardtop glass is the same for all U.S. models.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | domi - 2017-10-31 2:05 PM Hello For me it's not the same moulding 23 23 52 for C300 1955 belt right 1598 072 belt left 1598 073 for S23 1956 belt right 1598 136 belt left 1598 137 1598 072 and 1598 073 are the right and left belt mouldings for the rear window on 1955 models S21, S22, C67-1 (Nassau), and C68-300. That's the moulding along the belt line, not around the window. The belt line trim is below the window moulding and runs from the rear window along the belt line to the front joining up with the windshield lower moulding. The other Chrysler models (C67-2 Newport, C68) and Imperial (C69) used 1598 208 and 1598 209 for the right and left belt mouldings for the rear window. The right and left pieces of the belt moulding join in the centre below the window moulding and is covered by a joint cover. The 1956 models used 1621 354 / 1621 355 on DeSoto (S23, S24), 1621 360 / 1621 361 on Chrysler (C71, C72) and 1621 362 / 1621 363 on Imperial (C73) right and left belt mouldings for the two door hardtops. Again, the right and left pieces join in the centre below the window moulding and is covered by a joint cover. The 1598 136 and 1598 137 are the right and left side rear window outside finish mouldings on 1955 (S21, S22, C67, C68, C69) and 1956 (S23, S24, C71, C72, C73) two door hardtops. The rear window outside finish mouldings surround the rear window glass. The rear window finish moulding has left and right side, one lower, and one upper piece.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Thanks, Dave! Excellent idea. The rear window mouldings are clearly pointed out as is the belt moulding. Interesting that they put the arrow to the lower window moulding ("Moulding, Lower") at the top of the illustration and the arrow to the upper moulding ("Moulding, Upper") in the bottom.
