New member here. I have a 1957 Desoto Adventurer Convertible that my son and I are getting ready to start up for the first time after 45 years of it sitting in a garage. The motor is completely rebuilt. My son and I did that. The last piece of the puzzle that we need is a rebuild kit for the fuel pump. It is a Carter fuel pump part number MO-1063 with another number M2501S. I tried searching for a rebuild kit but have had no luck? I know that I can get a new one from Moparmall but they charge $225 plus another $100 if I don't have a core. They obviously know where to get the parts to rebuild them. They have to be available, otherwise how do they rebuild them? Anyway, this is the original pump from the car so I would like to reuse this one. It is in perfect condition except for the cracked rubber diaphragms. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 57 Adventurer was an "S26" in factory-speak. Based on the fuel pump part numbers (PNs) listed below, the OE fuel pump PN was 1752 462 up to S26 Engine No. 23797 (likely stamped on the block in front of the intake manifold, driver's side). After Eng. No. 23797, the PN became 1843 287. *BUT* with air conditioning, the fuel pump PN was 1752 463.

If you go searching on eBay, you eliminate the space so 1752462 instead of 1752 462. Here is just one of the results of searching on "1752462 Fuel Pump":

(The price is great. Just buy it and use it *OR* if you must, disassemble it and use its parts to rebuild yours:)

"NOS Mopar #1843400 Fuel Pump for 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, and 1963 Vehicles. Fits 1957-63 Plymouth, 1959 Coronet, 1960-62 Dart, 1957 DeSoto Firedome & Fireflite models. Interchanges with 1752462, 1752463, 1843268, 1843287, 1843414, 2279913"

Otherwise, for fuel pumps stamped M-2501-S or M-2502-S, you are looking for the diaphragm repair kit PN 1752 557 (1752557 for an eBay search)

It's a good idea to rebuild the original Carter fuel pump. You can get a rebuild kit with modern gasket material from Then and Now Automotive. I would recommend reusing the original tension spring, rather than the one that comes in the kit, which may put out too much pressure.

I would not recommend buying old stock, as the gaskets are old and may fail shortly.

Thank you for all of the responses. I did not have any luck finding any diaphragm rebuild kits under that part number? I saw that (then and now) rebuild kit but the parts look different than what is inside my pump now? It is not cheap either so I was a little reluctant to take a chance on it? I thought I would see what you guys had to say about it first. If there is nothing else out there, then I have no choice but to get the then and now kit.

I have used the kits from Then and Now on everything from my 57 Adventurer to a Studebaker Weasel. Every one has always had everything I needed and they have always worked very well.

Location: Wisconsin		We have used Arthur Gould Rebuilders several times with good results. Off-hand, I think they run around $135 for a full rebuild (using your pump) and shipping, which is considerably less than your initial quote. Of course, doing it yourself will still be cheaper if you can get the kit. It sounds like there should be a kit through Then and Now that works based on the previous comment.

I am going to take a chance on the Then-And-Now kit especially since (NM Desoto) has said that he has used them and they have everything needed. This is why I love sights like this. I knew this would be the place to ask. Thank you guys so much!!!

Good looking tutorial. I would add some diagrams like these so somebody like me, with little mechanical fuel pump experience (but who has good mechanical intuition, understands exactly what those components in the tutorial are there for and what they are doing:

I got the then and now kit. Rebuilt the pump no problem and it works great!! I want to thank everyone that pointed me in the right direction. When I get the chance, I'll post some pictures of the car.
