I was surfing looking for info on the 1959 Chrysler air suspension system, and ran across an announcement of a mid-year 1959 Chrysler Climax. The announcement had a retouched photo of the 1959 Chrysler on the front of the brochure with weird vertical headlights. Was this an April Fool's joke, or did Chrysler really intend to produce a limited Climax model?

The whole 59 line was a joke.

Here is the link to the Old Cars Weekly article featuring the 1959 Chrysler Climax and a few other 'special' automobiles never released to the public.

Yes, it was an April Fool's article, but imagine what would have happened if any of these car companies had tried to make a go of them.

Regardless of joke or no joke, it wasn't really that far off reality as it turns out, e.g. 61 Chryslers, 65 Plymouths, etc.

I'm guessing its a simple photoshop job from either back in the day or in the 50+yrs since then. Notice the headlights and marker lights are simply rotated 90 degrees rather than custom designed.

Umm...There were no computers to do "photoshop" back in the day (the 50's). The computers that were around belonged to the government or big corporations. And they weren't powerful enough and there were no graphic outputs capable of a picture like that.

What you see is the result of a real graphic artist creating a "rendering" (a graphical representation of a potential future reality). There might have been some "cutting and pasting" but that would have literally involved scissor and glue.

Yeah, I'm not an idiot.... I applied a 21st century term to describe what was done... I guess shame on me?

When was this "artwork" done ? It looks like it was done yesterday
with photoshop. Did you see the "futuristic" adaptations of other period
cars ? Methinks this is a latter-day silly being pulled on someone/the
public and not some back-in-the-day prank.
