Dr. Herbert Magee ran it 141.066 mph on Daytona Beach in Century Club. Entered Flying Mile but did not complete the run. Brewster Shaw then broke his Standing Mile record at 87.485 with it. Turned up around 2004 and was restored.

That's a cool car. I've never seen it in person but the owner (Gary) seems like a very nice guy. The gentleman in the photos is actually the restorer, Billy. Great guy! The two cars are sister cars. The only two factory built Chrysler 300 race cars for 1958. One was built for Bonneville and one for Daytona. The Bonneville car was actually built about a week earlier and sent to the proving grounds. Gary's Daytona car was moved along a little quicker. As mentioned above, both were picked up at the factory on the same day. The Bonneville car was more purpose built. The Daytona car was a true stocker and was sold to the owner with the intention of being a street car after the races... so it had some frills. So they were a little different, although similar. Like Andy said, Brewster Shaw was loaned the car and raced the Daytona car in the Standing Mile, which must have been a condition of the sale. It says a lot that Chrysler didn't build a car for Brewster in 1958. It sounds like showing up with too many race cars would have been too obvious of a violation of the new factory racing ban. It looks like a great car. I've got a couple photos that I'll find of it and post. I'd love to spend an hour or two climbing under and around it! Not many factory Chrysler 300 race cars around anymore. Josh

Andy.... Why didn't the Daytona car complete the Flying Mile run? Mechanical or another trim failure? Josh .

Location: North Australia | Thanks for the reply's, Guys. Josh, you should start a 'Factory race car' thread on this site. Then ask Owen to chime in with his C. I for one would love to see the cars documented in one place, and some recent pics of the cars. Regards, Steve. Edited by 60 Imp 2017-09-19 6:25 AM

In an article in the Chrysler 300 Club News, Winter 2006, the late Dr. Magee's wife told Gil Cunningham her "best recollection" was the distributor cap came loose during the run.

Steve,
I'd love to see new photos of Owen's car as well. That thing is stunning! Maybe we can coax him into it!!! It would be neat to get him to take some new photos and post. Hint, hint Owen!

While going through Vicki Wood's personal collection I found this old ad. She was interested in the supercharger as she was close friends with the owners of that company. But of course I noticed what looks like the Daytona 300D in the background. I could be wrong, but I think that may be it.
