Ok - I just spent about 2 hours searching and poring over the archived threads for front suspension, particularly torsion bars and sub-frames. I also cross-referenced my parts manual and parts interchange.

I want to upgrade the torsion bars in my 1960 Desoto Fireflite. According to everything I've read when I go to swap meets, junk yards, and wherever else, what I'm looking for is 608/609 bars . . . right?

They are listed as the HD non-sway application for my car, which I assume is the heaviest bar available for the short wheelbase cars, and the interchange cross references the standard 610/611 to the 608/609 as an acceptable substitute.

AND . . .

My parts car (the 1964 Dodge 880) apparently has a subframe that can be interchanged with the one in the 60 Fireflite (same wheelbase, suspension, etc) BUT - are the engine mounting points the same? I have the impression (probably incorrect) that the 361 in the Desoto uses a different mount (hard to find/adapt) than the newer 383 in the 64 Dodge. Is this correct? Should I be considering swapping the subframe along with the 383, or will the 383 be happy on the 60 subframe?

Thanks

Gregg

use 60/61 short wheelbase (118"/122") bb engine mounts with the newer 383. no need to swap the subframe.

Thanks Sid - good to know (and a lot less work).

Anyone who can clarify/confirm my thoughts on the torsion bars? I know somebody knows . . .
