I just acquired a 1960 Dodge D200 Power Giant work truck. It's a very basic vehicle with the Utiline step-side bed, L-head 230-cu.in. six cylinder, T85E three-speed, and 4.10 gears. It's currently missing the tailgate and the column shifter (someone installed a Hurst Indy floor shift). It also needs the fuel tank installed, a battery, a fuel-pump, radiator repair, and undoubtedly many other odds and ends from sitting.

My goals are to keep it very simple and stock. The only major change I have planned is I would like to install a New Process NP420 four-speed as it appears to be the simplest way to get a true floor-shift gearbox and it is very similar to the transmission on which I learned to drive, so it should be quite easy to teach my wife and daughters. I'm also thinking about throwing in a Pertronix Ignitor given the poor quality of modern points sets--though I'm tempted by the low cost of NOS/NORS points on eBay.

If anyone has any leads on a replacement radiator for less than $400, I'd greatly appreciate it. The unit that is currently on the car fell into the fan at some point and getting it re-cored appears to be prohibitively expensive. It also appears I will need new fuel-tank straps, though I anticipate that's more of a fabrication project than a parts hunt.

Thanks for looking!

Nice truck. Old trucks are the best for using to do actual work with them. Nice that you got 8 lug wheels in 1960. The wheels on my '57 D200 are large 6 lug style. The NP435 is a nice fully synchronized trans, but it uses an hydraulic clutch. I have one of those bell housings & flywheels kicking around for a small block. But my truck came with a 4-on the floor trans from the factory (but no synchro on 1st & 2nd) so I am going to just leave it there. I purchased a divorced gear vendor overdrive to go behind it so that I wouldn't have to mess with the 4.10:1 rear axle gears and be able to drive on the freeway faster than 60mph. I haven't installed it as of yet, because I haven't needed to use the truck as much as I had anticipated.

I have a '60 here in Little Rock,AR that I bought with 12 other cars. It has no motor or trans but the body is fairly complete. Its not a step side. Once I get it home It will go up For Sale. I have too many now and I already have a COOL '73 Dodge Camper 9000 with 55k miles. Ya have a nice 1 there. Keep the Flathead and go to the P15 Dodge , Plymouth Flathead web site for a lot of good Flathead info.
