Looks like a pretty sweet car. Asking price of $37,500.00 may be a bit ambitious though.

It bugs me that they never state anywhere in the ad that the car is a Windsor, but the 383 does give it away. Probably the VIN too, but I don't know how to decode it.

Well after 8 relistings, it's for sale at a much more reasonable price at $25K. But prices on everything seem to have dropped dramatically recently except on Christines, so we'll see if it sells now.

I don't think prices have dropped. High quality gets very high prices. People just aren't realistic on what the market is and think it's falling.

Yeah, a lot of poor quality cars are for sale at too high of prices, and don't sell, and that gives an impression that all cars are priced too high. In the end, quality sells, and sketchy cars are exposed.

What I have seen:
300C complete project with little rust: $6.5K (the motor with adj rockers, carbs & air cleaners is worth that)
300E project with some rust and assembly required, but complete: Can't sell for $5K (But you could probably sell the front sheet metal & emblems for that amount)
30 Model A 2dr sedan, nicely chopped, fully finished with nice paint & interior with modern drivetrain & suspension: Can't sell for $15K
71 Corvette convertible, no motor or trans but otherwise pretty decent & complete: no interest beyond $10K

Many things just don't seem to be selling now.

I think it's a manner of the market. There isn't one ! The people old cars mostly appeal too are.. older people. Older peeps aren't typically big on / able to do all the wrench work required - Yet they are the only ones with the type of disposable income (its not like you can get a loan for an old car, gotta have that cash in the bank and not earmarked for something else)

Younger people just don't have 10K sitting in a bank account waiting to drop on a car that isn't even a car (Needs parts, needs this that) Why buy an old car that needs work if you can get a newer one for less that doesn't ?

Two reasons old cars exist
- Guys that found them and fixed them up because they loved that car for whatever reason
- Guys that found them and fixed them up just enough to sell to guys above

Two reasons world goes round - Money and Love

Third reason, flippers trying to make a buck and get free parts. Just say NO.

Kept all the good stuff and now stuck with the parts car hulk that it really is.

Powerflite - 2018-07-16 10:24 AM Many things just don't seem to be selling now.

I don't think the market is failing or anything, I think it's more to do with how big the market is for these cars. As far as classics go, muscle cars from the 60's and 70's, tri-five Chevys, Christine's, 59 Caddilacs, 31 Fords, etc., are the cars that most people want, buy, and recognize. Hell, a lot of people don't even know what the 'Forward Look' cars are despite their popularity when they were released. I can't tell you how many people see my driving my 57 or 61 Chrysler and have no idea what year or make my cars are! People usually assume they are a Caddilac just because of the fins. One person thought my 61 Windsor was an Edsel.

FL's seem to occupy an unusual niche in the market today. They aren't as desireable or recognizable as other classics, but they aren't cheap either due to their relative rarity and outstanding styling. Most people who buy these things seem to be older people (as someone has already mentioned) because remember they these cars when they were first made and fell in love with them, collectors who want something more unique in their collection, and Europeans who can't seem to get enough of these old American classics. (I don't fall into any of these catagories, and I may be the only one under 30 who has an affinity for these things!)

Finding someone willing to pay what your car is worth is really more of a waiting game than anything else. You'll get what it's worth eventually, but it will take you longer than if it was a Tri-five Chevy or Plymouth Challenger. People are also right about seeing all the cars that are way overpriced; they end up on Craigslist and classified sites for months and years and give the illusion that no one wants to buy these things.

the no bids are not the price because they didnt meet the reserve.

I think I know what your talking about now and these sellers have driven off the buyers because they know the reserve is way high... This isnt the case where someone is offering the car ANYWHERE near that price...

All of the cars I listed above had no reserve. I don't even bother with reserve auctions. Waste of time.

I saw the C and it was GONE...  and the block certainly wasnt turning for 6500$ that seemed reasonable...

that C was basically a parts car.  I mean the body was in very bad shape, and missing alot.

You have to have a donor for that car.

Getting back to the 60 Windsor.........has anyone talked to the owner or seen the car? I seemed to recall that it showed as "sold" in a prior eBay auction. I wonder what's up?
