25 views, I'll add a bit more. I'm asking because I had been told all V8 Savoy vin numbers should have started with 21--- I have read the belvedere production started with 10--- Would this be considered an early production with the different front valence ? You need to post a photo of the data plate that is screwed/rivetted to the cowl somewhere under the hood to get more response. In the interim, you can have a look at the info below. Looks like a 57 P31-2 Savoy V8 built in Detroit to me. Edited by 56D500boy 2017-08-11 5:56 PM (1957PlymouthVINs.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 1957PlymouthVINs.jpg (120KB - 192 downloads)

That's the deal. The car was never built with a data plate, no holes were ever drilled for one. It's a V8 car, sand dune white over meadow green. A lot of little things on it are odd that make me think it was an early production/oddball car.

To get more info about your car you will have to contact Fiat Chrysler Historical at: http://www.fcanorthamerica.com/company/Heritage/Pages/Build-Records... You fill in the form, attach a money order or cheque (check) and send it in and hope. Don't be too hopeful. You will get more info than you have now but it will NOT fulfill all your info needs. Here is a thread on that topic from January of this year: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=45351&...

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Serial numbers for Detroit-built 1957 Plymouth V8 models (P31) ran from 16,083,001 to 16,392,956 for a total of 309,956. Your car, serial number 16,119,639, was the 36,639th Plymouth V8 built at Detroit. So, it was fairly early in the model year. The holes for the body tag were generally punched/drilled before the body was assembled. The body on your car was built at the former Briggs body plant on Mack Avenue and trucked to the Plymouth plant on Lynch Road in Detroit.

Thank you very much for the help Edited and wanted to ask, it has the later valence that's more common, the one with small slots. I assume it was replaced due to rot in the seventies when a lot of the bodywork was done. Would the earlier type be considered correct? I've never found one in person and was going to modify the one that's on it Edited by westwoodblue 2017-08-13 11:49 PM

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | The original part was number 1624 775 while the new one is 1754 194. The parts books I have (early Canadian (Sept 1956) with old number, later Canadian (Feb 1958) with new number and US book (Nov 1958) with new number) do not list a up to serial number use this and after serial number use that. Which means Chrysler's intention was to have the new part replace the old. So, the new lower grille would be acceptable in you car as we do not know at what point the new replaced the old.
