Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Even when I first got my 56 Dodge Custom Royal D500 back in Sept. (2016), there was an issue with the front grill moulding (the one piece "moustache"). The driver's side end wasn't properly attached. I ignored it until yesterday. While I was out there installing my new to me (and much better, but not perfect) eBay front Dodge Emblem, and I had tools (3/8" 1/4" drive socket and rachet), I decided to investigate the moulding issue. Suffice it to say, another can of worms has been opened. Turns out the moulding was barely held on. Only two or three of the eight (8) clips were working at 100%. See examples below. I think the PN is 1657 064. I would like to find NOS clips *OR* GENO (other brand) substitutes. The issue is the stud is not in the center of the moulding but rather to the upper portion. Any BTDT's? Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | I haven't got any leads on NOS 1657 064 grill moulding clips so my two options are making (faking) new clips from tin and using 10-24 machine screws as the studs or attempting to press-out the stud on a GENO 17-2619 trim clip and redrilling the clip and then re-installing the stud. (PS: I installed new 17-2619 clips on the big rear fender 56 Custom Royal chrome (Item 7) piece yesterday (these are the three that you can access easily from the trunk), I also used two 17-2619 and one 17-2644 on the Custom Royal vertical "hockey stick blade" (Item 8) piece. Here is a photo of the grill moulding clip options that I have thought of (so far): Edited by 56D500boy 2017-07-31 5:25 PM (56DodgeFrontMouldingClips1657064_WithOptions.jpg) (GenoGMChryslerMouldingClips.jpg) (56DodgeCustomRoyalSideTrimPNDiagram.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56DodgeFrontMouldingClips1657064_WithOptions.jpg (186KB - 170 downloads) GenoGMChryslerMouldingClips.jpg (43KB - 149 downloads) 56DodgeCustomRoyalSideTrimPNDiagram.jpg (112KB - 151 downloads)

Extreme Veteran Posts: 309 Location: Western Colorado | I found some of these universal molding clips at our local body shop. You can cut them to match your offset. The "ears" on the original clips are only to keep them from moving around during installation. You could cut a small piece of rubber and glue to the back of these universal clips to keep them in place during install. I think AUVECO or the Clip House probably has these. Auveco seems to be the source of the GENO industries 17-2619 and 17-2644 (Auveco 2619 and 2644) clips that I have bought up here. The Auveco 19378 clip that you mention is not in the GENO catalogue I did find 19378 on page 692 of the Auveco catalog: http://www.auveco.com/OnlineCatalog/v2016/index.html#?page=692 Not to find some locally: Found that NAPA carries them as Papco 246400. 25 (a box) in Calgary (2 days away). Papco = H. Paulin. I'd have to buy the box. Lordco (a local FLAPS) has 16 in Duncan on Vancouver Island. I might get 10 by the weekend (if I ordered today). Extreme Veteran Posts: 309 Location: Western Colorado | How many of these clips do you need? I also found these on the NAPA website. Their number is BK-6653248. They are manufactured by Auto Fastener Group and their number is 47919. Bob Edited by rebel 2017-08-01 12:20 PM

I went back to my NAPA guy with that BK ( = Balkamp) number and he has two bags of 3 in stock and can get me another from the warehouse before 1 PM. Yippee. $9 CDN a bag, not so much. (BUT way better than me making them!!) https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_6653248 Edited by 56D500boy 2017-08-01 2:07 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Picked up the three bags of three. Pretty easy to figure out where to snap off the excess metal. Unfortunately the scoring for the snaps isn't very deep and getting precise snaps, even using a vice, is difficult. I used my Dremel cut-off wheel on one of the them and that worked better. On two out of three so far, the stud came out during the bending/snapping process and had to be pounded back in. The spacing on the two outside stud locations is different than the inside six studs. No idea what that clip looked like because they both came off as rust. Almost easier to make the clips from sheet metal and 10-24 machine screws, tapping the sheet metal to install the machine screw. Oh well. Into it now.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9855 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Okay, took a bit to figure it out: Marked the Balkamp clips on the score lines that I needed to break the excess off (2 bars showing at the bottom, 9 bars at the top). Then "cut" along those lines (both sides) with a set of bolt cutters. Then I placed the clip in a vice at the break line and wiggled it with pliers until the score line broke (very easy compared to my initial attempts). I did the 6 inner clips and mounted them in the moulding. Then I temporarily mounted the moulding back on the car (with plain 10-24 nuts). Pretty easy to line up the clip studs and the holes. I think the two outer clips will be the same as the six inner ones, except flipped over (the original parts said eight 1657 064s so the outers were the same as the inners just flipped). Well that might have been optimistic. I had all of the hood and grill trim including the center painted metal mustache off the car while I did some painting. When I took the car around the block at the end of each day, suddenly it was much quieter. SO I think the sound was coming from those clips and the fact that I just had plain little 10-24 nuts on them, with out even lock washers. That had to change. *AND* I realized that I didn't even try to get a clip working at each of the ends, where the moulding goes over a bit of the fended. Turns out that the configuration on my hack clips was good but for the ends they had to be flipped. So I found the left over Balkamp clips and cut two new ones in the same configuration as the other 6 (there are a total of 8 clips). I bought 10-24 Nyloc nuts and also cut some EDPE rubber to make a spacer/gasket between the moulding and the painted metal mustache, making sure that they would be hidden. Then I arranged the clips properly and, after polishing the moulding for about 40 minutes with various compounds, I added the moulding to the front of the car with the Nyloc nuts (and a washer for each of the outboard clips that are accessed from inside the wheel well. Hopefully this will stop the rattling. The location of the 8 clip holes: (56DodgeFrontEndMinusAllTheHoodAndGrillTrim.jpg) (56DodgeFrontEndMinusTheHoodTrim.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 56DodgeFrontEndMinusAllTheHoodAndGrillTrim.jpg (192KB - 109 downloads) 56DodgeFrontEndMinusTheHoodTrim.jpg (173KB - 103 downloads)
