I recently had a tough time finding a particular posting that I remembered reading. The "search" feature helped a little, but it was only with some dumb luck that I actually found what I was looking for. That made me think to present this suggestion. When placing the SUBJECT line in a post, please try to make it something meaningful that can be searched and found more easily. For example, something like "carburetor interchange" makes a whole lot more sense than "my recent problem". In fact, I often just skip over the posts without meaningful subject lines, and perhaps others do, too, so providing the good title might increase readership. Just my thoughts.

Good idea, the search function leaves much to wish for. Once you find a tread you've been searching, be sure to ave the link in a browser folder.

Good call Ed. This site is the go-to place for almost all FL car related info, whether it is general knowledge, or restoration/maintenance info. All contributors should strive for concise post titles, especially when asking questions as you say. Makes it easier for us learners.

There is such a vast amount of first hand (and second hand!) experience recorded here that I think if it ever disappears there will probably be a slight shift in the Earths magnetic poles.

Will be for me anyway........................

When you go looking there is so much info to tap into, both real time and by past (and some deceased) contributors as to make this library totally unique in the world.

Thankfully there are current contributors who remember what went before, and dredge up the old posts to help the FNG's. Good work Guys!

Ed - agreed. Pet peeve of mine, but regardless of that I too generally skip by posts that have a generic also. I'm on an Oldsmobile forum for my other car and see it all the time, and similar search function impacts.

So good advice to everyone esp. when looking for advice to put details in the subject line - I'd even suggest including year/model as well.

The best BB on the web is Practical Machinist, which is run by the owner/moderator who has a few rules. One of them is that the subject must tell the reader what the thread is about For example, "How do I drill a 2" diameter hole in glass?"

Every day, someone gets their feelings hurt because they start a thread titled something like "Question" or "Need help fast". Their thread gets locked.

While on the subject... Also, please put all threads under their relevant sections. When you are looking for a specific topic on motor issues it is very annoying to have to search the general forum, every single Region section, the general tech section, as well as the section on engine subjects where it belongs! I know that previously some people thought that no one really looked in the other sections so they would post everything in some general section. Please don't do that. Thanks!

I'm on another car forum where I have over 34,000 posts since March 2009. When I start a thread, I always use very specific searchable titles (both for the current forum members and for myself when I need to find something that I have documented). I think I do that here. I know I search for my own posts a lot to remember what I said (or asked) and the answers.

The other thing is, within a thread, you can change the subject line to add to the specific info that you are trying to post to the thread. (I have done that here - hopefully it works here too).

Not that it matters but when I post photos to a thread, I first save the photos with a searchable name, e.g. 56DodgeIdlerArmandBushingsDiagram.jpg:

About photos....please take the time to upload photos to the site instead of tying links to them. Links eventually die. We really don't want to see these non-pictures littering our forum 5-7 years from now because of all the dead links.

The issue you raise here is Photobucket, Over the last few weeks they have disabled 3rd party sharing, Unless you log into your account there and pay them $30 a month they no longer allow you to share your pictures,,

hence all forums now will be littered with your image above..

Most people are now moving to other Free Image hosting services that allow 3rd party sharing,, I think Photobucket just signed their own death warrant as cant see many paying their New Fee policy
.

Yes, Photobucket in this instance, but all other hosting sites die and go through changes etc. It is best not to link our fate to anyone else's greed or fate. Put the images here and they will still be here as long as this forum remains up.

To join the "have a winge" post, I agree with both

Especially the pictures or links and especially with the for sale stuff

Its cool to be able to see what everyones talking about when you look for something instead of
a dead ebay link.
Just copy and paste a picture
