After much thought, I've decided to go with a cheap and reliable electronic ignition conversion for my 413. I'm either going to buy all the necessary parts to swap over to a mopar electronic ignition. I'm not buying a kit. I'm going to buy all the parts over the counter. Route number two would involve using a hei module with bracket that mounts it under the distributor. I would also go with a E core style coil and eliminate the ballist resistor. What are your experiences with these conversions? Reliability is my main concern.

My opinion is do it. you wont regret it. Use over the counter parts. GM HEI is a great choice for availability and reliability. Its just better all around than a points system. With all the gm cars using hei I don't ever hear much bad mouthing hei systems, Its tried and true and isn't going anywhere any time soon. Chrysler stuff is a little more hit and miss depending on the source if you need replacement parts. Everyone has GM hei parts.

Simplifying the ignition system, by using less parts, can be one step closer to reliability.

I've just installed a 4pin HEI-module and e-core coil on my engine stand. Along with a regular stock electronic distributor and a full 12v source, this thing throws sparks like crazy when the dsitributor is spun by hand outside the engine.
Throw a spare HEI-module in the trunk for extra backup 'reliability'.

I put a Mopar system from Indy on a 70 300 I had. It worked great as that was the first points system I encountered that I couldn't get right. Both my R/T and my Desoto run points.

If you're looking at wiring harnesses for the Mopar electronic system the part number is P3690152

I've had good luck both with later electronic systems & Pertronix.
