The reported mileage of 25527 km is actually 02552.7 miles (i.e. 102552.7 miles). Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | Looking at it closer, its a factory r/h/d car The US heater hole is spotwelded closed the same as my dodge was and the squarish shape on the left of the firewall (r/h side looking at it) is the shape of the hole they make for the mopar truck heater they used and the round plate just above and off to the side of that plate is the fresh air intake for the truck heater (they used a big hose)

After consulting with a Dodge Royal collector from Melbourne it appears that this Dodge Royal MAY have been potentially a left hand drive, hard top that had been converted to right hand drive and into a convertible many years ago, before we owned it. (This info was provided from viewing photos only).

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | This thing started life as a Coronet 2dr sedan. The windshield with its visor and the vent windows with their sedan front edge show that to be the case. Also no rear quarter windows. As for the frame, the big question would be why keep the convertible frame and toss the body. If the body was all rusted out one would expect the frame would be about the same. Have some questions about the serial number being LD3-19581. Also, this car seems to have an automatic, judging by the wide brake pedal, but the box for the push buttons has a cover plate with no room for buttons.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8443 Location: Perth Australia | I spoke to the owner/seller yesterday It was bought as a father son project, but his father is to sick to do it, thats why its for sale The engine runs, but the gear s**ter went missing when the car was stored elsewhere. The chassis is a sedan chassis (no X) and as I said above, it has been built over here as a r/h/d. The VIN he has provided is from the chassis rail in the engine bay and that was all he could see, I have said to clean the area and look a bit more, there should be more to it. The paint damage on the boot is from a chemical spill onto it, I thought there had been a fire inside the boot. The owner really doesnt know much about the car and is trying to sell it and offering up as much info as he can find out about it. To get it on the road over here will be an excersize in frustration due to government regulations and paperwork, but it can happen. It is tempting, but to much on my plate already

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | The VIN stamped on the frame, LD3-19581, is undoubtedly correct for that chassis, a 1958 Dodge Custom Royal. You will not find any more numbers for the VIN as the highest number for the Detroit-built 1958 Dodge Custom Royal was LD3-32180. You might find the engine number on the other side of the frame. However, the lack of the "X" member means the chassis frame was not from a convertible, and coupled with the fact that the body on the chassis now was originally a Coronet 2 door sedan, means the owner has a mess on his hands, sorry to say. As the 2 door sedan had its top chopped off to become a convertible the body probably does not have the additional structural support members added to the body to make up for the lack of a roof and B pillar. And the car is structurally crippled without that "X" member. Would be surprised if the doors could open. Or if they did, they could be closed.
