Subject: Up the roll

Location: San Antonio, TX		Now I finally get it. Why do we see reupholstery jobs where the fabric pattern is 90 degrees off the original. Such as these two. It's because the pattern on these fabrics is up the roll. It takes more material to do it correctly. Here's a picture of the way the pattern looks on the roll as well.

Location: Hay Lakes, Alberta, Canada		Yes! Unfortunately, it does take more fabric to do it correctly. And...there's always the problem of knowing which direction the pattern ran, if your cloth is completely degraded or missing (as is common on the '57s with bad foam). The upholstery shops will usually do it as instructed...but sometimes they screw up too.

Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada		Not only do re-upholster jobs get it wrong sometimes, but the factory has also been known to get it wrong. Islander62, a member here has an all original 58 Imperial Crown. Take a look at the pattern on the driver's seat back in the photo. The Crowns on the driver's side are facing down, on the passenger side are pointing up. Maybe built on a Monday after a particular bad weekend!

Not always, as on my '57 Plymouth...
Where every upholsterer seems to have 'preserved' the previous upholsterers work...

I once was considering (Shame on me) a 1998 Ford Contour SVT (Because of the 195 hp V6 engine's potential) *however* when I went to look at the car, half of the 60/40 rear seat was SVT and the other part was normal Contour. I figured if Ford's quality control didn't catch that blatant error what else did they miss? I said, "Thanks, but no thanks". Thank Gott.
