Expert Posts: 2007 Location: Branson, MO | While cruising through Branson this evening, I saw a parking lot full of police vehicles they were preparing for a parade . One is a 1959 Dodge Missouri Highway Patrol car. Looks really sharp in blue and white - far different from today's standards. In the photo with the license plate frame, you will see CON JOB. This car was actually restored by inmates at the state prison in Jefferson City, MO - hence CON JOB. And it is a colour combo match (sort of) for the 2dr D500 in this thread: http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=64960&... Edited by 56D500boy 2017-06-15 10:59 PM

Someone added an alternator, and the seats aren't correct.. but overall it seems to be a nicely restored car. I have become friends with one of the troopers there, that drove that car recently, Terry. He sent me a slew of pictures of it for my restoration on my '57. The 57 Posted is my MHP car. It is a 57 D-500 two door sedan. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9862 Location: So. Cal | It's harder to load and unload them, but much easier to control. They have no separate exit available to them. When they switched to 4drs, they had to remove the inner door handles & window cranks.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9862 Location: So. Cal | This is Mr. Fay's '61 Polara police car. He has '56 Dodge caps on his. Not sure if this is what it originally came with. But he pointed out that the Polara in the old photo above is likely a movie car because it is using Polara side trim. The police cars used Dart side trim on them. So that's a good point. Nevertheless, the Dart above that picture is using the Plymouth caps too, not the Dodge caps. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9862 Location: So. Cal | Turns out that the Polara police car with Polara trim is pulled directly from the Orange County Sheriff's Department website. So that's a real car shown there. Here is another picture from it. So it looks like the '61 Dodge could have come with either cap. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9862 Location: So. Cal | I think this is the only picture I've seen of a '56 Dodge using the later, larger dog dish caps. The parts book is cryptic about it, saying that they were only used on 6-cylinder cars, which doesn't make much sense to me. Now I can see that they look like the standard, early dog dish cap, but there is a painted ring around them on the rim for some reason. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9862 Location: So. Cal | This '56 Dodge from an old TV show is wearing the extra-large hubcaps that, according to the parts book, are slated to go on later built 6 cyl fleet vehicles. I've always suspected that that is a little misleading. I would expect them to have come on any fleet vehicle, regardless of the engine choice. This particular police car has the V8 badges & dual exhaust, and is wearing those hubcaps. So this is a good piece of evidence that my suspicion about the application of those hubcaps is correct.
