So I need a RH exhaust manifold passenger for a 315/325. I found one on ebay it doesn't have the mount on it for the generator/ac compressor but it looks like it will fit. The casting number is 1617790 and all I can find is that it references a 56 dodge custom which is what I have, but im not sure if that manifold is for a 270 or 315. They guy selling it is pretty much saying I need to figure that out myself and I have had no luck on determining what its for. Any help would be appreciated the machine shop was unable to fix my old cracked one and this is the only thing holding up my engine now.

1617 790 doesn't seem to be a valid 56 exhaust manifold PN. (But I could be wrong). BUT 1617 788 is a valid right exhaust number for a 55 V8

Other valid numbers are shown below:

Yeah I saw that on another site. So the D55 referenced is a 315 correct?

Don't think so. In 55, I think the biggest Dodge V8 engine was a 270. 315s didn't show up until 56 and then in 57 they became 325s. (I think this is true for both the poly and hemi engines)

Be careful to not equate the PART number with the CASTING number. They are often very close but rarely the same.
D55 is the engine code for a 1955 270 and D500 is 1956 315. The Model code for a 1956 315 is D63.

Yeah I was trying to get some more info from the seller but he seems to want me to do the homework on what he has. My wifes car is a 56 CRL that had a 315 in it but now has a 325 (I know same motor). The manifold im looking at is listed as a 55/56/57 RH exhaust manifold but he is not sure what motor it is for. The only number he could give me was the 1617790. I called Collector Auto Supply and they told me that number crosses with the number 56d500boy told me, but all they told me it was for a 55 D55-1 or 2. My gut is telling me its a 270 exhaust manifold which wont fit my 325. I attached the link to the ebay ad.

The issue with not fitting is likely related to the port size/shape. Do you have photos of your broken manifold.

The data below might (or might not help) (There are indications that the eBay manifold might fit afterall)

The eBay manifold:

I do not have a photo of it. I compared this one to the correct one I have off of an old ebay ad that I found and it looks correct this one is just missing the mount that is cast into it like my old one has. I may gamble and see if it works. Its better than what I have now which is a manifold in two pieces.

If it doesn't then oh well. Next step is ordering some flanges and making a set of headers.

So I got the manifold today and it fits. Ports match up and the collector is in the right spot. Little close with the spin on oil filter but other than that it fits.

I have a r/h manifold from a 55 Dodge pickup with the casting number 1553783. Other than the generator mount, it is identical to the 1617790, including port size. I have an old casting guide ( for whatever that's worth ) that shows it as Dodge truck 54-56 with a 259 engine. It doesn't even list the 1617790.

Yeah no clue about that number either. I gambled on this manifold and it payed off. I figured I'd post it up in case anyone else had a issue.

So I have run into another snag with this engine. This is originally a A/C car but some one had removed the compressor and bracketry from it and made a mount for the generator to mount it on the drivers side. I have since put on a 4bbl intake that does not have the boss for the generator mount like my 2bbl intake had.in addition I got a water pump from something and it does not have the boss for the mount. Also the exhaust manifold I got to replace my cracked one does not have the mount either. Has anyone else run into this scenario Im really not interested in the kit that Hot Hemi heads offers as I am trying to keep it kinda of period correct looking. I know I know the big red MSD dizzy and edelbrock carb kinda defeats that!!
