Location: Under the X in Texas | There are three styles of snorkel, or side-mount or whatever air cleaners used for the '57 Chrysler 300C. I presume all three styles were also installed on '57 Furys which shared these parts. The differences are in how the back of the "can" is stamped and also in the neck between the can and the carb neck. You'd best post a pic of the one you have if you intend to match it with another. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9650 Location: So. Cal | The '57 Dodge also used these same cleaners, except in black color. But for some reason, the DeSoto version included a larger can on them for more silencing action, I assume. The embossed back version is the same one that I have. I have never seen the large throat version before. Most of the Plymouth's that I have seen used the plain back, with Dodge and Chrysler mostly with the embossed back. But you are saying that it was pretty much random which version you would get?

Location: Under the X in Texas | The large throat style was used very early in the year. The plain back style was used for perhaps a couple of months production but without the heavy neck, it was found to have a sound resonance under hard acceleration. Stamping the pattern into the back of the can eliminated the resonance and continued to the end of '57 production. For '58 the design was simplified with the smaller air cleaners we describe as "football-shape" that sat directly on top of the carbs.

I had four sets of these at one time. They were all like the one on the left, but one set did not have the brackets and there was no evidence that they every did.

Cheers Some members here have made pretty convincing clones out of regular silenced 4-barrel air cleaners. Member granau made this one and member Jessica is making a set as well.
