Was the roof rail trim on '58 Desoto 2drs used only on Firedomes and Fireflites? Is it the same as the Plymouth & Dodge roof rail trim and 57-59? Or is is longer? Thanks

The shape of the Dodge and Plymouth roof is different than that of the DeSoto, so that alone would eliminate the possibility of swapping, I would think. Not only that, but my '58 Dodge didn't even come with roof rail molding. Maybe the high end ones did, or maybe not. I'm pretty sure that it will interchange with Chrysler cars though. And the Windsor did have roof rail trim. I don't know about the Firesweep, but I would expect them to have it too.

Coronets came with no trim, royals had the single thin trim and custom royals had the larger 1.5 inch wide trim.

All the makes followed this similar pattern except Chrysler, they all used the thin trim(special one in 58 used the thick Desoto)

Firesweep roofs should be the same but didn't come with trim.

The flite and domes wont fit though because the roofs were different(windows in back).

I have a Firedome with the small rear window I can't see any evidence of the trim on my car, but all Firedomes 2drs did have this trim? And it is Desoto specific?

If you are talking about the thin drip rail molding, and not the optional thick molding, then yes, all firedomes came with it. My firedome has both the thin and the optional thick moulding with the small window. But like I said, you can get standard thin moulding from a Chrysler too. Chrysler and DeSoto share the same roof.

I didn't think the domes had the window trim standard but you could order them?

the roof trim had "option 2" on hts, "option 1" wagons/sedans and it upgraded the roof trims.

58 Spring special had the trim included(domes got the thin upgrade, and flites stayed the same since they got the big thick with the thing in between the back window and rear glass already).

You could get roof rail trim on the '57 Firesweeps; don't know about the '58's.

Thanks, very informative. Mine is a Spring Special. Seems I am missing the thin drip rail molding, if anyone has one. But never had the thicker optional molding.

I don't see anything about the big window ordering on the Desoto advertising.

I see the window trim package 1 and 2, was that the big window? Or was it a option offered but not pushed?

The big window was not an option in '57 and not an option on '58 Desoto. It was only an option for '58 Chrysler and '59-up cars. However, all '57-'59 New Yorkers, 300's, Fireflites, & Adventurers (2dr coupes) got it regardless.
