I talked with the seller several times. Price was good, considering it was a "driver" restoration. I asked if it was real Fury he said yes. Made a deal to buy it, had him send pics of the VIN etc to confirm. VIN is 26642563. Of course, this is an LA car not a Detroit car and in 1957 they only were Detroit built. Googled the VIN and found an old FL listing where this had already been pointed out. I called back the owner and told him VIN indicates it is a Belvedere. He admitted previous owner had made a clone Fury. Also wanted to argue that values were close to each other. Asked it was a real Fury engine he said it really doesn't matter since the carbs etc were correct.

It probably is still a good price for a Belvedere with Fury mods, but just be aware of what you are buying, it is NOT a Fury and to me if he was not honest with this off the bat I have no further interest in the car.

Here is the current listing:

You can find the story of the conversion here:

The seller should definitely be honest about it not being a real Fury. I have nothing against clones, I own one myself, but people should mention it when the car is being advertised.

"Buyer Beware" That one just gave me a bad feeling I didn't even check it out and that's not like me.To quote GregLD3 "There's a lot of wanna bees out there" any bragging rights are hard to live up to if they were none existent in the the beginning.

I love my DeSoto. It is just an amazing car/design. BUT !!!! .....
I totally get the nausea that convertibles induce, based on the
typical people that own them. Especially if they are painted red
and have a hi-po engine in them. Oh look, ANOTHER Super D500
convertible !

Honestly, when I chased this car down, they were largely despised
by everyone, and none of the current stigma of douchebagdom
surrounded them.

But yeah, .... kinda like all the hi-po cars, a certain crowd is drawn
to them that ultimately makes the cars a turn off. My sedan takes
"ugly" to the extreme, and is cool because of it. No self-loathing hi-
-po car guy would be seen dead with a sh!tty old green sedan like
mine in THEIR garage ! Which makes it all that much better to me !

Hehehehe !
