Member Posts: 11 | I'm from British Columbia Canada, got a good history owning 4x4s but only recently added a classic car to my collection from inheritance. Its a 1959 dodge custom royal lancer 2dr hardtop, 45xxx original miles bought by my grandpa in 1959, garage kept its whole life and parked since 1978, after cleaning the junk out of the garage in january, i'm 28yr old and never actually seen this car not covered/surrounded by junk, I gave it a basic tuneup and carb rebuild, it runs and idles nicely now, trans wont up shift out of first but ive still got to change the trans oil, he knew upholstery guys back in the day so its got brand new seats and carpets that i just finished installing only thing that seems to have been lost is the rear ashtray, things requires a bit of fitting and finishing but ill probably have professionals deal with the finishing touches interior wise. Hoping i will have it one the road before end of summer, assuming transmission doesn't blow up or need a rebuild, and it will also be getting disc swapped which is what led me here in the first place. Your transmission problem may not exist it may be with the linkage setup on the carb since you've recently rebuilt it. The torqueflite trans manual [trouble shooting] is a good reference as a guide on how to set it up properly. Other than that a fluid and filter change with a good transmission fluid additive may clear up the problem.Enjoy the 59 it would be nice to see where are you in BC?

Member Posts: 11 | Well ive been spending weekends working away on the car and its come a long way, its currently running rather well, still haven't gotten into the transmission shift issues yet but did re/re the fluid and the pan was a nasty mess and the bands are a little sloppy but aside from reading the FSM i haven't actually got into making any adjustments. Front disc conversion kit from AAJ Brakes went together way easier than expected, even the removal of the old stuff was trouble free. As for the rear i was able to find a rear end out of a 71 R/T challenger with a freshly built never run center section [he ended up going with a 572 crate hemi and needed more axle] so that will allow me to upgrade to more modern style drums and eliminate the tapered axles. At this point brakes just require a decision on Master/booster setup as i decided im just going to upgrade to modern style for simplicity and it will clean things up under the hood. Ive also come to the conclusion i have WAY more spare parts than originally thought, some of which i'll be selling off in the future
