Regular Posts: 56 Location: Washington, PA | Does any one have a 57 Dodge with a 3 speed manual and power brakes? The reason I ask is because I do, and it was ordered to be this way, but it does not have the Mopar factory power brake unit like I have seen on automatics. It has a unit bolted to the inner fender on the drivers side that I believe the dealer may have added on. I am going to have this rebuilt and put it back on the car but I don't know why this ended up on my car and not the normal unit like I see on the automatics. Any insight would be great.

Regular Posts: 56 Location: Washington, PA | Yes those are not what I have. Mine is similar to mstrug posted but I can't say for sure untill I get home. It is not on the car currently but I plan to put it back on this summer after having it rebuilt. I just cant figure out why the car has in rather than the factory unit. I know my grandpap has told me that For T birds of this era came with what I have from the factory and it was a widely used unit.

Regular Posts: 56 Location: Washington, PA | Do you know of one on a 3 speed? All the ones I have seen are on autos. I wonder if the shift column caused a problem and that is why mine is not on the firewall or the normal one, or maybe the dealer just screwed it up when he ordered it and that was their quick fix to make it right.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8947 Location: WHEELING,WV.>>>HOME OF WWVA | two parts books i looked in today says that two types of boosters were used in 57 and 58 dodges . one is the better known to some as the bellows type #1675312 . the other is a can type or parts book reference cylinder type #1735620 and round per parts books photos . are the parts books wrong . mopar parts book reference code is 5-100-2 ---------------------------- later as a ps , both numbers are for 6 or 8 cyl. Regular Posts: 56 Location: Washington, PA | Any chance of getting a picture of what your parts books show? Or either way I will get one up of what was on my car, but I really dont think its a Mopar part, but I do believe manufacturers used them direct from the factory and they are very common. I wish I was at home to get a picture up while this thread is getting attention.

I'm not 60_dart and I don't know if agree with his PNs (he typed 1675 312 but I think he meant 1675 213) but here is what I found in the 55-58 Mopar Parts pdf (that you can download for free BTW). I know my grandpap has told me that For T birds of this era came with what I have from the factory and it was a widely used unit. I have seen at least two of what you describe. All on junkyard cars and many, many years ago. At the time, I had no idea why they were or had been installed. No reason I could think of. BUT, I was very familiar with those remote hydro vac units. They were pretty much identical to the ones I was installing on large gooseneck trailers. They were either vacuum over hydraulic or air over hydraulic actuated from the tow vehicle. The ones in question here were vacuum. Not much help but, yes, they were used! What I can say is that they were regular production Bendix units. Greg

Regular Posts: 56 Location: Washington, PA | Here are some pictures of what came off of my car and the holes in inner fender for it to mount to. Like I said I know this came on the car from the dealer when it was new. I know he ordered the car with power brakes, and the three speed manual option is pretty rare so I don't know if that has something to do with having this power brake set up, or the dealer just made a mistake when the ordered the car and then added this to make up for it. Maybe power brakes were not an option with the 3 speed and rather than tell him that they just went ahead and ordered it with out and then added it on when they go the car. I will probably never know but I thought the whole thing to be interesting. The unit is made by Midland. I am not sure if they came factory on Ford T birds of the 55-57 but I know my grandpap told me he never saw a t-bird of that era with any unit but this one, so maybe Dodge used them in special cases as well.
