I've never really been very interested in the hot rod or custom scene. At least not to the point where I'd own a car like this. That said, I have respect for the work when it's done well.

In this case, I think this 61 looks surprisingly good dechromed with the monochrome paint scheme. I think it shows off the lines of the car rather well, and the car comes off looking somewhat graceful. It's a contrast to a stock Fury which is (in my opinion) one of the more awkward looking FL cars. Don't get me wrong, I'm actually attracted to the awkwardness of the 61 Plymouths. I've owned one, and I think that is what make them so unique and fun.

But this red car... Makes me wonder if THIS is closer to what Virgil Exner had in mind, maybe when he saw the first clay mockup in the design studio. Just a thought. It is well known that he disliked at least some of the flashy trim that was tacked on to his designs and preferred the cleaner look, aka the 300s.

In particular, I think the rear treatment looks soo much cooler and cleaner without any backup lights. I've seen a few Savoys like this, but of course never a Fury. You can see the real shape of the horizontal fin and the curves of the body. I rather like it.

Am I crazy?

FYI, I don't like the idea of a chevy engine and I really hate the steering wheel. Modern aftermarket steering wheels look so awful and out of place on FL cars.

The ad, God Bless its heart, too so long to load I gave up on it.

Chevy engine? Well, what needs to be said?

I agree the body looks decent though the red color...

Don't get me started on aftermarket steering wheels and for that fact the whole 'Mopars had overassisted power steering' bit. I'll say this much - at least on old cars you can actually see the gauges without having to peek under the wheel.

I rank the original steering wheel as the third neatest steering wheel ever made for a car - just behind the '60 Fury & '59 Dodge wheels. So why in heaven's name would anyone transplant some other lame wheel in there instead? Defeats half the fun of driving a '61 Fury. Most likely, he dumped it just to save from having to pay to restore it. And I personally really like the side trim on a '61 Fury. Dechromed just looks too plain.

I kinda like the pointy Cadillac? taillights though. Seems to fit this car pretty well, except they would be better if they were a little larger in diameter so they wouldn't have to use the second bezel to hold them.
