Regular Posts: 86 Location: MN | I'm sure this has been discussed at length but I didn't find any discussions when I searched with "oil" in the Engine, Exhaust, Fuel and Ignition section. I haven't had an older car since the whole ZDDP/zinc issue. I've done some research with a lot of conflicting information. It seems what was good a couple years ago may not be the case currently as I've read some products, like Valvoline VR1 for example, have changed their formulas. I think I've decided to run the Brad Penn/Penn 1 product but what viscosity? Back in the late '80s and '90's I used to run 10W40 in my '66 Charger and '59 F*rd. I'm in Minnesota as it can push 100 degrees in the summer and get below freezing in October/November. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks,

To each his own - I'm running single grade SAE30 with extra Zddp and never had a problem. Someone will tell you to go synthetic and others will tell you no. Therefore I only tell you that I've been using straight 30 for 7 years and the engine has never been opened yet The engine still runs good and strong.

Member Posts: 30 | Have you been inside this motor? Do you know your bearing clearances? Stock pump or HV? Also don't vary to far from the FSM recommendation on weight for your region and season if it is indeed all stock. I like brad Penn, I also like a good full synthetic (Amsoil). But it seems to me using synthetic oil with 50-60 yr old gaskets shows all the leaks and then some.

Regular Posts: 86 Location: MN | Thanks for the responses everyone. I haven't been inside the engine. It runs nice and I was told it's all original with 76,000 miles. Thanks, Shawn

You don't want any globs breaking loose & clogging the oil pump intake. Thanks for the responses everyone. I haven't been inside the engine.
