I've never done a trans front pump seal on the early torqueflights so I thought I'd pop on here and ask a few questions before I even order the part.

Advance auto says they can get one in a couple of days for like 24 bucks.

I know Chrysler commonly used the same seals on stuff for years and years so I was wondering if that might not be the same seal as a modern 727 or 904.

Also, again, never done one, if there was anything special that needed to be done to change it or if it was just a typical seal you pull out and drive the new one in.

Thanks in advance,

Wayne

The '57 Torqueflite front seal (NATIONAL 6879H ) is not the same as the later 727/904.

When installing the new seal it's best to pack the garter spring with grease to prevent it from popping off when driving the seal in. Even then, I like to shine a flashlight down the hole after installation to be sure the spring didn't pop off.

Thank you, I appreciate the help and information. That's a good idea to pack it with grease to keep the spring from popping off. I never thought of that, of course I've never had it happen either, but you never know.

Thanks again,

Wayne
