So I pulled the Engine and Trans out of My 58 Mayfair Convertible I am Trying to Identify it .The car should have had a 318 poly head like in a 58 Plymouth ,What I Took out is what I believe is a 58 Dodge Engine ,The number on the Engine is LD3V23313C .It has The Engine oil Dipstick on the LH side all the way to the back ,Both the Exhaust Manifolds are center dump ,The Road draft tube runs out of the valley pan at the rear and the valve covers look like the ones on my 58 Dodge coronet parts car that has a 325 poly . It also has a 4 Barrel Carter AFB carb ,With the air Cleaner that sits on the side .Do any members know what the CID would be on this Engine ? Thank you for your Help .

Yes I believe that is a 354 cu.in poly out of a Canadian made Custom Royal going by the photos of my engine in my 58 Sorry the engine stamp is pretty faint but it was cold the day when I snapped these photos.

It does look a lot like your Engine ,I thought it was Different that the Dipstick was all the way in the Back .I thought it might be a Canadian Engine since the car spent its Life in Canada .Do you know if this Engine was used in any US models ? Thanks for your Help .

If it is a Mayfair, then it was very likely built in Canada, in a Canadian Chrysler/Dodge plant, perhaps with a Canada only engine (??). Queue Bill W. (Chrycoman).

In 1958 the 313 cu.in poly was introduced as documented. The C indicates Canadian made [Chrysler Windsor] same as my 354 Hemi Canadian made. The Mayfair convertibles were made in Detroit Michigan or one of those plants.Once again as the story goes because of import/trade restrictions the plymouth converts could not be imported into Canada so the bodies from the firewall back are Plymouths and the Dodge front ends were grafted on, The Canadian Plodge Play I don't believe Dodge made a convertible in Canada till 1966. These 2 1958 convertibles are the only ones remaining I think unless someone can show me a picture of another and please do. My 57 convert I believe is the last one remaining in Canada, there again I leave myself open to be corrected and please do once again

Thanks for the update and correction to my conjecture Glen.

Well the info I posted most certainly wasn't intended to be pointed in anyone's direction and I hope it wasn't taken that way. To clarify myself a little more some of the info was passed on to me by others with interests in the Mayfair and they're findings over the several past years all brought together by members on this forum past and present . As a teenager I road shotgun in a 57 Mayfair Convert for many a mile before it made is final run and now that's all but a memory. When searching for another I finally gave up hope of ever seeing one again so that's when I made the move on my D500 a short two years later I had ran an add on KIIJII searching again this time I came up lucky as the owner at that time responded to my ad.He was prepared to sell with some apprehension but he came to the realization that I had actually had a hands on experience with a 57 Mayfair Convert and my intent was not to buy and flip and the deal was made.

Chrysler of Canada did not build convertibles from 1937 through 1962. They were all imported and thus had US engines, not Canadian. Although I have come across someone who has a 1962 Fury convertible with a Canadian engine - it appears to have been a custom order as the engine number is not the normal layout. Chrysler imported Plymouth, big (US) Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler convertibles from 1937 through 1962 as well as 1954-1959 Dodge Mayfair and 1960-62 Dart convertibles.

The engine, LD3V23313C, is for a Canadian-built 1958 Dodge Custom Royal which would be a 354 V8. The Mayfair convertible should have a 318 V8, engine number prefix LP8, or the optional B block 350, L350 prefix.

The reason convertibles were imported was due to the lack of sales. Chrysler of Canada would have lost money on each one built. Thus in 1958 Chrysler of Canada imported convertibles in Plymouth Belvedere, Dodge Mayfair, Dodge Custom Royal, and DeSoto Firedome series. No Chrysler Windsor convertible. The sedan and hardtop models of these series were built in Canada as well as the Plaza, Savoy, Crusader, Regent and Plymouth-based wagons. All the other DeSoto Fireflite, Chrysler and Imperial series were imported - sedans, hardtops, convertibles and wagons.

Although the Dodge Coronet and Royal series were not sold in Canada, Chrysler of Canada would import one for you if you wanted. The import duties would have added a nice little chunk to the U.S. price.
