Elite Veteran Posts: 769 Location: Oley, PA | I've heard on some of the other forums that he is dealing with some medical issues - one surgery done and at least one more still to go. As of January 2017, he temporarily stopped taking orders. No idea as to when he'll be back, but the word is optimistic that he will. This copied from the Facebook Forum: From Ian J Smale For those who don;t know what is happening with Gary: This is from Rich Barber of the Chrysler 300 Club: "Due to circulation and other problems, he had the end two joints of his left big toe amputated—the first of three major surgeries. Although the surgery went OK, he was disappointed the surgeon took two joints instead of one. Problems with his severely-damaged left ankle have necessitated replacement of his right hip joint. That surgery will be delayed for three months to make sure his body is healed enough to make the hip replacement safe. After healing from the hip replacement, he will be scheduled for amputation of his left foot below the knee. That’s the mixed news for Gary. There is light at the end of the long tunnel. For the rest of us who value Gary as a friend, as well as a provider of otherwise unobtainium items for our 300’s, the good news is that it appears there is a plan to return him to a full mobility, pain-free and productive existence and continuation of his business providing over 700 restoration items from screws to full leather seat covers. Additionally, in the interim, Gary continues the majority of his business as his limited mobility allows. He says he is catching up on back orders somewhat and is taking orders. He is molding rubber parts but trunk panel kits are on hold until warmer & dryer weather when they can be properly painted. He is working on seat sets and has a big batch of leather coming for more. New seat orders are at least a couple months out. He said he would appreciate knowing of customers wants and needs for seating and other major items in advance so he can plan to have material on hand when needed." Maybe someone has updated info?

Expert Posts: 2519 Location: central Illinois | I sent in a small order a few weeks ago and got it back in a little over a week so I believe he might be getting some help? Please note that he wishes all orders to include a 10% increase over the prices on his last list.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7206 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Steph give him a little more time. I believe he makes each set of these as they are ordered, and it could be difficult if he is still recovering from amputation surgery. If your order was placed and your check was cashed, you'll get them, hopefully soon

Expert Posts: 1886 | Waiting for him to get home from rehab, get mobile within his shop, then fly out to inspect the place. Talked to him this week. Hopefully get out there in 2-3 weeks depending on his progress. Will do an overnight to see what I'm getting into. Come up with an outline for an agreement, to see if it works for both. If it does, send someone for a week to apprentice under him for 7-10 days to learn his process's and go from there. IT's not a short process.

Veteran Posts: 110 Location: Falcon, CO | Mike, thanks so much for taking the time to follow up on this. I bought many small parts from Gary that were invaluable in restoring my 57 Dodge. I'm sure many others could say the same for their vehicles. It would be especially nice to see the business "stay in the family", so to speak. Don H.

Expert Posts: 1886 | There will be challenges of course. There is no formal inventory system, it's what is in his head, which is everything. Also, cost of goods vs what he's selling. It needs to be a viable business. I'll have a lot of work to do once I visit to get a true costs of goods to make sure this can function as a viable business. I have a possible location where this would work. Next trick is upholstery, as I think I have that figured out as well. A lot of variables, but I'm sure it can be worked out. What I lack in forward look knowledge, I make up for with business knowledge. We will see!

Expert Posts: 1530 Location: ZH, Switzerland | I just sent a fax with few part of the out of the shelf category, prepaid by PayPal. The fax's ringing but no answer. It seems the fax machine is out of work right now. God bless Gary Goers and serves him a fast recovery and a good solution for him (I know he would retire). Extreme Veteran Posts: 427 Location: McCleary WA | I sent an order to Gary 12/1 and received it 2/5, with only one part unfilled (out of 15). Along with it was a letter from Gary detailing his health issues and stating that a helper would be filling orders from stock as much as possible, but that labor-intensive items would be a problem. He also asked that orders add 10% due to added costs that have not been reflected in his catalog prices for a long time. I know we all wish him a speedy recovery and a sale of his business if that is his best move.

Expert Posts: 1530 Location: ZH, Switzerland | On both orders I sent by fax (only the first, acutally the fax machine still doesn't answer) I increased the prices (at the form) by between 10 % and 25 % on my own. Good luck I added the parts (and amount) on the PayPal transfer for the second order.... Dieter

Extreme Veteran Posts: 340 Location: Tacoma, WA | Someone shared with me that Gary had yet another surgery, and I believe that was after his letter from late 2017 where he explained, "My legs are so bad that I can barely walk at all. Even with a walker I am very limited. I've been inundated with orders for Chrysler 300 seats to do, am managing to make progress on those and will finish them all by early next year. I can still take small parts orders, but not large items such as trunk panels....I thank you for your patronage over the past decades and hope to be able to keep supplying parts..." I'm sure especially the large items and cutting and sewing leather is a real challenge when everybody probably starting flooding him with orders (including me two years ago) and just living life and getting around has become a serious, tiring challenge. But I am sure the doctors didn't remove his honestly. Edited by Dave L. 2018-02-13 11:35 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 347 Location: Ocean Park, Washington | I'm not quite done with my complete restoration so having the products that Gary sells is really invaluable. No one carries parts for the 55-56 Chrysler and DeSoto cars. It's great there is some positive talk on the future of the business. I can sleep better at night.

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | Mike M. any update on continuing the business? A lot of FL folks depend on Gary and there is no alternative for much of what he provides. Gary got his start working with and for Richard Carpenter, too bad RC can't also help with his near limitless resources and profound love of FL cars

Expert Posts: 1530 Location: ZH, Switzerland | In the first parcel was a copy of the fax with the amount I payed too much. But neither the second order nor the back transfer has arriven until now. The parts for the second order I put as a sidemark into the comment field of the money transfer (PayPal). I really don‘t know if I‘ll get the second order. Of course it‘s my fault I didn’t order ways earlier. Still I wish superb healing and recovery for Gary Goers. And a good solution to put over his business to younger hands as he wishes. Happy Restoration! Dieter

Extreme Veteran Posts: 427 Location: McCleary WA | Thought I'd report that I submitted an order to Gary 8/28 for 15 rubber parts, and received them all yesterday, less than 2 weeks later. I even re-ordered a very hard-to-find pair of wagon tailgate seal corners that were the only thing in my last order that was not sent, and got them too. I don't know if Gary has a helper, but this was unexpectedly fast service. I've given some thought to approaching him about taking on his business. I ran a very successful mail-order parts business (for DeLoreans) for 18 years so have some experience, but just don't feel like I have the Mopar knowledge to do justice to his legacy. My FWDLK experience is pretty much limited to '57 Dodges. I don't have the room for inventory any more, plus at 69 I think it would be too much to take on now. I hope someone comes forward and helps us all out.

Location: Naperville, IL | I recently sent a couple of orders via regular mail (with a check enclosed) totaling well over 50 items and got almost all of them in three weeks from the order. Some lenses and special items were not available, but all the rubber and metal parts were. Also talked with Gary over the phone, and although he is in a wheelchair, he is still able to mold rubber pieces and also has plenty of inventory left in weatherstrip rubber etc. But he is about to retire and is actively working on getting his business transferred over.
