Hi, guys

I have a 1958 Plymouth Fury with a 350 engine, and am having trouble with the original ignition points. Just wondering if anybody has added the new electronic systems to their cars, and if they work well or not? Any suggestions, pros or cons, would be appreciated!

Phil

I'm pretty much still a noobie here but I recently converted my dual point D500 hemi distributor (IBK-4301A) using a Pertronix CH392 (or "1383") kit. Easy peasy. Not sure which kit you would need.

The engine starts much quicker now and idles and runs much better. That said one of the issues with the points was my internal distributor ground wire must have been failing because it broke off during the installation of the Pertronix kit. I made a new ground from de-soldering wick because of the multiple woven strands will resist fatigue cracking of the wire.

I also installed a Pertronix internal ballast Flame Thrower coil. No more need for the external ballast resistor that can cause ignition problems.

Pertronix catalogue: http://pertronix.com/catalogs/pdf/ptx/2015/Pertronix2015.pdf

Plymouth V8s are on page 12 (14/76). Looks like it might be a 1383 but hopefully others will chime in with a more informed answer/confirmation.
