Expert Posts: 1267 Location: San Antonio TX | This is a particularly hard ad to understand because it's basically one long sentence. On top of that he starts talking about how he was the guy who invented unleaded gasoline, how he's not selling a non existent 73 Challenger with 71 stripes on it, and that he didn't post photos because photos never work.

A quick google search on his name shows he's an 85 year old guy in Westport, CT and the address matches his listing. In my book, once you've made it to your 80's, you deserve a lot of slack. Also, he claims to have some documentation. If I were a bit closer, I'd go and check it out.

Location: The Mile High City | That one of 11 is familiar. It could be a Super D500. The legit Coronet convertible Super D500 made an identical claim. If someone is in the area, it is worth checking. Oh, and if he is 85, he can probably cut us some slack. We are the "wet behind the ears" dipsticks - and that's the truth! Edited by Lancer Mike 2017-03-17 8:58 PM

There were 7,617 D500s produced in 1958, according to Jeffrey Godshall - I have never seen a breakout of how many of those were Supers, although Darryl Davis was working on it. When a legitimate Super D500 Coronet convertible was recently advertised, the seller claimed, and I paraphrase here, only 11 legitimate Super D500s were know to survive today. Sounds like hogwash to me, but a notable coincidence occurred in this seller's description (one of 11). Known production numbers are one thing - and even they can be contentious, but "survivor numbers" are typically just wild conjecture and off-hand speculation, with some notable exceptions - this not being one of them. 1958 Super D500s are cool and rare, but I imaging they are not quite as rare as Regal Lancers (1,163) and almost positively not nearly as rare as the D501, D500-1, or mythical EFI Super D500. As far as value goes, most price guides used to say "add 15% for D500 and add 35% for Super D500" - it is just a rough way to add value for various price guides. I never regarded 58 Super Ds as all that rare. It seems to me Neil and I had multiple examples. Easy to identify. Power plants were coded right on the body plate! Greg
