Not mine! I've been asked by a fellow in North Carolina to help advertise his '57 Firedome 2-dr HT. It's rough, and has sat for a while, but he claims that he will have it running when it's sold after changing plugs, points, fluids, etc. If it's running, and not in need of a complete rebuild, perhaps his asking price isn't too far out of line at $5000 or best offer. Obviously needs a lot of sheet metal, and I don't know anything about the frame, but I can put you in touch with the seller who can take more pictures if you want them. For now, he's asking me to be the go-between just so I can monitor the interest in the car. If you contact me, I'll give you his email address. I'll try to post pics...

I think this has popped up a few times already. Looks like the rust is getting worse on the front, when you compare the older pics to the new ones; those holes around the lights are getting bigger.

NC? I'm confused, this looks exactly like the car in Maine a while back, some of the same pictures? Did it get bought and moved?

Looks complete, but needs lots of rust repair. Very cool colour combination, IMHO. I like the single headlights on the '57's...makes them look mean!

Firedome, I didn't ask the seller where the car is located -- perhaps my bad. However, I have his address in my 1957 DeSoto database as North Carolina. COULD BE that he lives in NC but the car is in ME. I honestly don't know. Potential buyer will have to check into that one! Sorry for any confusion.

There are so many of these cars that need work that hit our clasiifieds only to be scrutinized and told what is wrong and need a lot of time and MONEY but drift off the site never to be picked up by someone who has both and loves the cars. IS there anything terribly exciting about this Firedome, NO! If someone on the forward look site doesn't have an interest who would? I certainly can't afford to take on another project but can't help but feel sad that another possible survivor has been possibly parted out or scrapped.

The biggest problem most experience with taking on a car such as this is finding sheet metal to repair rust damage. It wouldn't take complete quarter panels or fenders like what's being reproduced for cars from the muscle car era. It does take accurate patch panels for lower quarters, trunk pans, trunk extension panels, rocker panels, floor pans, lower fenders, fender eyebrows. Yes there are people that are good at making patch panels for a particular car that they own or are working on, but most people aren't able to make them themselves.

The way I see it, until someone takes on the chore of making readily available panels, cars like this will languish for someone crazy enough to take them on or heaven forbid be turned into parts cars.

never to be picked up? there is a lot of rust damage, the whole car needs restored and everything is corroded.

We all know the issues with just getting parts.... dash knobs... steering wheels, all new chrome.

Everyone here know the work and money involved and its a lot with that car. I have some like it and it will take years just to get one up and good.

This car will get picked up because its complete, it wouldn't make sense financially to part it out. I would expect maybe 4k? and that's a reasonable price.

Seller emailed me that price is negotiable, so if you're on the fence on this one, let me know in a PM. And yes, seller lives in NC but car is in Maine. He is up there often, so it's not an impossible task to deal with him.

Thanks. Yes I will completely restore it. I just got it yesterday so haven't gotten a chance to evaluate it yet, other than rockers are just terrible, quarters are nice, some parts of interior are nice and are savable.

Congratulations. If it's any consolation, I think the rust issues on my '58 are worse than yours. It's a long road to get it all done, but well worth it.

Thanks guys. I looked for one of these for many years. The body isn't bad except for the rockers, quarters good, even the floors aren't too bad, they need some work but nothing too major. But the rockers, inner and outer, are non existent. Already found a pair of fenders. Nathan we may have to compare notes when you do the inner rockers on your '58 I have never done inner rockers before
