Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | My 56 Custom Royal D500 came with no keys. None. I removed the ignition and had a key made to fit it back in September. Recently, I removed the driver's door lock and had it keyed to the ignition (Which I think is correct). Very recently, I bought a set of what appear to be NOS nickel plated steel Y137 and Y130 DPCD blanks. (See below). Because I can't remember back to 1972 when I sold my 1955 Dodge, I don't recall if the glove box lock and the trunk lock are the same key or not. This really related to re-keying the trunk lock. If the glove box lock is the same, I will remove the glove box lock and take it in to get a new key made and then test it in the trunk lock. If that works, I will get them to cut the NOS blank(s). Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Trunk Lock and Glove box lock should be keyed alike. this was how it was originally done. Doors and Ignition lock were also keyed alike. Just a reminder to all FL members if you can't find a locksmith in your area willing to work on these old auto locks, I do them often, and have had locks sent to me from here in Canada, the USA and even the UK. Here's my web site page on vintage automotive locks https://www.acmesafe.ca/services/vintage_auto_finished_projects.html I just finished a set of locks for a 1954 Chrysler New Yorker. They arrived on Tuesday and I mailed them out finished this morning. I never let them sit around, as I want them done and back to the customer asap. Edited by imopar380 2017-02-02 3:35 PM

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9903 Location: Lower Mainland BC | Thanks guys. Suspicions confirmed. I'll take the glove box lock to my local locksmith (Accurate Locks) in New Westminster and have a trial key made. They've always come through for me (so far). Ian: Any comments on the octagon vs diamond shapes or the "nickel" key blanks? If I remember correctly my 55 Dodge keys were aluminum (but very worn). Dave F.

Octagon shape were usually the "primary" ignition/door key. The diamond shape would be the "secondary" trunk/ glove box key. Originals were aluminum. Edited by imopar380 2017-02-02 3:58 PM

Extreme Veteran Posts: 470 Location: the Great Northeast | Don't forget, the glove box typically is only 1/2 of the pins. This means the glove box lock will only have 1/2 of what is needed by the trunk. Ian, please confirm if that is true for this car.

Trunk lock typically has 5 tumblers, glove box lock has 3 or 4 depending on year. Some trunk locks have 6 tumblers, starting with some in 1959 through 1965. Ignition and door locks always have 5 tumblers in the old beasts. Pins tumblers in the ignition and doors, wafer tumblers in the glove box locks, and pin tumblers in the 5 tumbler trunk locks, and wafer tumblers in the six-tumbler trunk locks. Confusing I know ;-)
