Member Posts: 7 | Hi, new member here, I have a 1949 Dodge Wayfarer that is on the HAMB, not finished, chopped the top, sectioned the body, Dakota front suspension and a 440, 8 3/4 rear, C notched and 4 link. Haven't had much time to work on it last few years, I also have a thing for Internationals, had a 1980 Scout, 1971 1210, and a 1946 K2, all now sold. Anyway, I Knew of this truck for quite a few years and after I sold my '46 K2, I wound up buying this. Its a 1957 Dodge Sweptside, and I'm now told its pretty rare. Its pretty solid, only it has a Ford inline 6 engine. So, I am on the lookout for a 315, and push button trans. Ok, so I tried posting pics, maybe they're too big, anyway here is the link on the HAMB http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/farm-find-1957-dodge-swe... Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Welcome to the group. There are a few of us truck owners here, but not as many as car owners. That's a great find and should be a real blast once you get it going. There is a guy here (mikes2nd) that is selling a 325 Dodge motor. You might want to contact him. Here is the thread on his motor. http://forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=62927&post... The truck push button shifter is pretty hard to find so it is a good thing that you still have yours intact. You were right. Your pictures were just barely too big to attach. I made them a little smaller for you. Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Most people who drive these trucks during the summer months realize the benefit of the small window. The big window doesn't give you any more visibility and just succeeds in applying hot sun to your backside. They might look better with the big back window, but the small window is much better for driving. Looks like the previous owner got creative with the radio location. I wasn't thrilled with the large blank plate on that side either so I got creative too and made this. I figured it complements the symmetry of the dash better this way. The original radio was actually mounted to the roof with a roof mounted antenna. Someone is reproducing the antenna, but good luck finding an original radio. Dodge did a weird paint job on the front; the color just stops: I think it could have been handled better. Virgil wasn't very vigilant was he? Member Posts: 7 | Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty excited. Possibly found a 56 Desoto trans pushbutton that was behind a 331 hemi, would it be the same? Anyway, I'm looking around for a 315, hopefully complete, not a huge rush though still need to wait for a thaw and pull it out of the weeds. Might head over there and grab some more pics.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | No, it is probably a Powerflite 2 speed trans. You want a Torqueflite 3 speed. You could even adapt an aluminum pushbutton trans from '62-'65 if you wish, but it would require the use of an adapter on the bellhousing.

Do you know as well the sweptline forum? Even if it's related to 61-71 Dodge truck it might be helpful (http://www.sweptline.org/) Happy Restoring!
