I wanted to start a thread for sharing Photoshop work from FL members. They can be fun, even if we're a bunch of amateurs.

My dad said the stock colors on my '57 Chrysler would look elegant and 'stately' (UHU - Mist Gray body, Deep Ruby roof and insert). So I figured I'd give it a shot.

Here's the photo I started with.

And here's what I ended up with. The colors are obviously different, but I also removed the antennas and put the license plate and surround from the previous owner on it.

Very nice! What version of Photoshop are you using?

I've played around with doing that, but never quite had as good results as you have. I'm using PSE 11. Not sure if I need up upgrade my software or just my skills.

It's a really old version, CS 5.5. There are a lot of great tools in the newer releases but I've never had a chance to try them out. I have played with PS for my own entertainment for about ten years, pretty much self taught.

I really like that silver/red!

Thank you sir. It's supposed to be gray, but it seems to be a different color on every monitor. This is what it looked like the day I found it.

I used a straight-on photo of the car when it had that plate on it. Then I massaged it (distorted it, really) to fit over the license plate in the new photo. A little trimming and tweaking of the color, and voila.

very cool thread...
i have some photoshop's of a '55 Coronet that i'll have to reserve from posting here...
the "original" was a bikini-chick, a '55 Coronet (with a flat tire), and a semi-automatic rifle...
i photoshopped out the semi-automatic, put air in the tire, and made a garage poster out of it...

Very beautiful Fury. I think those wheels look good on it. The look familiar. Dodge Magnum (circa 1980) or Mirada??

The wheels are '80 Cordoba...and yes, Marc, the width of the spear will be narrower than stock but will rise higher in back than the photoshop. Note also, there will be as stainless steel rocker panel cover to help visually lower and lengthen the side profile.

Thanks. I knew they were circa 1980 but I forgot about the Cordoba. BTW, I like what you did with the sail panel by shortening its height.

Nice job of incorporating look-alike lines from a jet fighter to a FL. I always liked the F-86/'56 Plymouth comparison in the ads, and the Swiss F5/'59 Dodge share lines very nicely!

Not mine, pulled from this blog: http://artandcolourcars.blogspot.com/2012/04/1961-plymouth-fury-design-tweak.html

It's not a concept for a custom car, it's a refinement of the 61 Plymouth. He worked out some of the awkward design elements and tweaked others. Looks pretty sharp to me. Having that body line go down the whole car rather than just at the front and back really helps unify the whole design.

Not sure I like the rear wheel opening to be quite that enlarged though????? Car looks pretty good and I do like the blacked out grille. Although I generally like wire wheels, these are just too big for my taste - kinda out of proportion on this car.

just terrible, no sense for 50s detroit design. people who like big wheel openings and big wheels should buy a new car, front bumper looks like build at home. terrible. detroit iron is not some ****** italian car for F****** with silk underwear.

it doesn't get much better than this:

No, not Ghia . . . Virgil Exner.

All those show cars Ghia built for Chrysler were designed under the direction of Virgil Exner, not Ghia. And that includes the cars built by Ghia that were not commissioned by Chrysler but look like a Chrysler show car - 1952 Thomas Special, 1953 GS-1, the car pictured in #537044, and the VW (Type 14) Karmann Ghia. They were all based on the designs by Virgil Exner.

The Karmann Ghia was designed by Ghia using Exner's 1953 D'Elegance as a starting point (the D'Elegance was being built when Ghia got the VW contract) and the bodies were built in Germany by Karmann. The Type 14 KG went into production in October, 1955.

In September, 1961 a new KG went into production - the Type 34 - that used the 1500 chassis (Type 3). The front end, though, did have some Exner flavouring with its toned down 1961 Plymouth front end.

I recommend the book Virginia Exner visioneer.https://www.amazon.com/Virgil-Exner-Visioneer-biography-extraordinaire/dp/1845841182

The book covers just about everything about Exner and his love of the open wheels.

As stated above the Ghias was Exner design

The book covers just about everything about Exner and his love of the open wheels.

As stated above the Ghias was Exner design

makes sense, iirc.....according to a fl member and former designer working with exner back in the day, the ONLY (mopar) model that exner designed all by its own was the 60/61 valiant............... which is in my book the ugliest car of the big 3 on american soil in the 1945-60 period.

heres another.....well, lets call it 4 wheeled creature, that exner designed:

I guess I'm in the minority, but I like the subtle changes, except for size of the wheels. The rear wheel opening is very Ghia looking.

yes, as i said italian..........

Hello all:

My Firedome convertible was originally all red with a white top.  The second owner added the white sweep and the lower trim moulding.

Could someone here use Photoshop on one of the following images to show how it originally looked?

Thanks,

Mike

Sweepless '58 DeSoto's are really rare. It almost seems that they all came with the trim, but there are a couple that clearly didn't.

Single bar side trim DeSotos from 57 or 58 are super rare. Not sure
I like the 58 version, but the 57 version just looks like 300 trim, and
looks great ! .... better than a 300, IMO.

Mine was definitely coded without the sweep.  I think I remember Ivan Jones telling me he added it when he restored it.

I thought it would be interesting to see what it looked like.

When I was hotly chasing leads for convertible 57-58 DeSotos, I learned of
a 57 Firedome that had the single bar side trim. It was a 3-onda-tree car and
was devoid of any options that I could see. The car was turquoise and had
remnants of a white top. It was a RUST BUCKET ! I wish I had that car today.
What an unusual DeSoto !

At the 1992 NDC convention, a local guy pulled a trailer into the show area
with an all white 58 Firesweep ragtop with the single spear like the two shown
above. This car was also devoid of any options, except it did have a Powerflite
transmission. The seats were black (as was the top) and looked like the cheesiest
school bus seats you ever saw. The seats, like the car, appeared to be factory
original, but I have never seen such a stripper interior like that car had. Fleet
car ???

Well, it would surely look less like someone was trying to mimic
Christine without the white sweep. Was your car originally red ???
