Getting down to the rebuild on my 56 dodge regent. Because this is a Canadian car, if I understand correct my flathead would be a 25" block 250 engine, while the equivalent US model would have had a 23" 230 engine.
Silly question but would the engine replacement parts (bearings, rings, timing parts ) be the same on these engines?Obviously the crank and cam shafts would be longer but I am wondering if a 230 rebuild kit will work on my 250.

Hola Todd

If the engine in front of you --- was mine - I would get all the parts from a 251 cubed De Soto ( - 1955 ) - A 251 cubed Jr Chrysler ( 1946 - ) or a Dodge Truck ( - 1967 ).

If any of the above seems hard to locate ---- Look at "Air Port Tug's".

First things first....put a tape measure on the head and determine whether or not it is a 25"......you can also look at the ID code on the side, up front, above the generator.

ID numbers here: http://www.t137.com/registry/help/otherengines/otherengines.php

ID code on the block is D 60 163780 if that helps.
I'll measure the block too.

Just measured the length of the head and it is 25 3/4" across the machined top of the head.

Another engine rebuild question; can someone post a picture of the tool needed to pull valve guides out of a flat 6? Shows a crappy photo of one in the shop manual. Are these tools available for purchase out there?
