Hello friends,

Just a short story for a very nice 1960 Windsor that arrived in Bulgaria (Europe) about a month ago. I am not the proud owner unfortunately, but I am glad to mention that I found it and bought it from E**y for a friend of mine. He has two late 50s American cars and was looking for one more car from this era. I've always tried to persuade him to buy a Forward look car and this time I managed. We bought the Chrysler almost immediately after it was advertised - just 4 or 5 hours later. The seller was experienced Chrysler specialist who is selling a lot of old Mopar parts in E**y.
In short the car is a 4 dr htp car, that originally was white, but was repainted in black a long time ago. It is a very original car with approx. 30 000 miles. The upholstery is original too - you can see the old plastic seat covers that were removed. The car has swivel seats which I think were an option. It also has the fake spare wheel on the trunk.
We had to wait for the car for about 2 months until it come to Bulgaria. When it arrived we were glad to see that it is in pretty good condition. It has some rust at the bottom, but nothing major. Also it needs brakes work, but otherwise is in excellent condition and run and drive very well.
This is the only running Forward look car in Bulgaria currently. Also it is one of the two 1960 Chryslers in my country. There is one 4 door htp Saratoga, but keeping in mind its poor condition it will never run again. So this Windsor is a very special car.
The only thing my friend was a little bit surprised to understand is that this car actually doesn't have "P" (Park) gear on the transmission. If you want to have the car idling you have to put it in Neutral and then to use the parking brake.
I will try to upload some pictures of it below. The first are actually from the add and the last two were taken while the car was in transport. We will take some nicer pictures of the car and I will upload them later.

That is a beautiful car. Tell your friend congratulations.

Chrysler didn't have "Park" button (or lever) until a few years later (I know that 1964s had a Park Lever with the push buttons). So Neutral and hand brake is the way to go. There is a neutral safety switch on the transmission that stops the engine from being started in gear.

More photos!

Peter, I saw this car for sale while it was on Ebay over here a few months ago and saved photos of it. It's a very nice looking car. An interesting thing to note is that if you bought a Windsor with the all vinyl interior, the door panels were upgraded to Saratoga style panels, which this car has which are slightly fancier than the Windsor panels.

Very cool! I have its sister, a low option 60 Windsor 4 door hard top. What is your friends plan for the car? Just drive it or is it more of a museum/collection?

Also, I don't know your background, but if you are native to Bulgaria, your written english is great!

Thank you very much for all the compliments and for the comments on the car. I am also glad to read that there are other similar cars in the forum.
The new owner is 70 years old. He has a nice dry garage where the car is in storage now. He wants to drive it occasionally. He has to fix the brakes first through and soon I will have to look for brake hoses and wheel cylinders. I hope to be able to drive the car the coming summer. The Windsor owner lives 300 miles away from me, so we meet few times per year and mostly talk on the phone. We are planning to visit the owners of the other 1960 Chrysler in Bulgaria. We hope to somehow motivate the son of the owner to try to restore it even if not making it 100% original, because it is not possible.
I hope I finally will find my Forward look car too in the near future.
It will be great if you all post pictures of your 1960 Chryslers in this thread. We will make it more interesting this way.
Meanwhile I will ask my friend for some more photos of the Windsor.
Regards,
Peter

Welcome, Peter, to you and to your friend with the great Windsor.

My car doesn't have a Park either; I just pull the hand brake, put it in Neutral, and hope for the best.

My first 60 DeSoto which was a 4 door hardtop Fireflite, way back in 1985 when I was in high school, the parking brake did not hold and it rolled back and dented the fin on a pole above the rear tire. Talk about being really upset and wondering why there was no park in the trans !?!? From that time forward I have always parked backing the tire into a curb or using a block of wedge wood behind a tire in certain circumstances just to be safe. If your e-brake shoes are not up to par or the park mechanism doesn't hold your car will turn into a runaway chunk of beauty. DeSoto lives !!!
