Location: Murray Bridge, South Australia | On my 58 2dr HT Desoto Firedome there are two chromed pot metal castings that sit under the tail lights next to the rear bumper to cover the welded seam, James has helped me identify them as part numbers PT17565-18 and PT17565-19 and also advises that they will be impossible to get. Part no 19 is in reasonably good shape, pitted as most pot metal parts are but cleaned up will be a good candidate for lost wax casting. Unfortunately part no 18 is so badly damaged it can not be used. If any one has one for sale or even if I could rent/hire it so I can recast that would be great, in fact we may make a few of them. We are also going to attempt recasting the light castings. |

Location: So. Cal | My car has the rear bumper guards so I don't think it has those pieces on it. At least, I don't see them on there. |

Location: Under the X in Texas | Standard equipment on the '57 DeSoto was the approx. 1" 'square' pot metal castings. All cars got them. Optional were "bumper guards", a very poor description of a much wider casting to replace these standard parts. They can be plated, no matter how pitted, using the "acid copper" process, which at least doubles the cost and only high end plating shops will do this.

Location: Murray Bridge, South Australia | Great idea springsweptwing we will give that a go. Most likely recast in a lower temp melting point chromable material. Am open to suggestions guys, are there any others interested? not wanting to make a profit just get me some and help others. |
