Veteran Posts: 122 Location: Murray Bridge, South Australia | Hi Everyone, I am restoring a 58 Desoto Firedome Sportsman coupe with trim number 636, SMS will supply the materials and make the door cards and send them to Australia. The only thing I don't have is an arm rest insert to make a copy from wondering if any one with one could take a few photos for me. Just about to weld up a rotisserie so we can do all the body and rust work easily, chrome has been the biggest issue as most of it is pot metal and pitted. Also looking to buy roof gutter trim.

Location: The Mile High City | Is that the silver mylar material on the door card around the arm rest? SMS did Brad Jones' Firedome convertible with a 636 interior. They should have everything they need. Follow the link to images of Brad's interior
You must have bought one of James' cars. I would love to see images of the restoration!
Cheers, Mike | ||

Veteran Posts: 122 Location: Murray Bridge, South Australia | Yes it is one of James cars but I am the third owner in Australia, the guy I bought it off of has done some bad stuff to it as he wanted it as a rat rod!!

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Ugh, a rat rod DeSoto doesn't sound great. Do you need any pictures? I have a 2dr '58 Firedome too. Mine was originally Aqua color, but the previous owner did a color change to pink.

Location: The Mile High City | If you can share some images of the mylar detail, it would help. Depending on how thin those embossed lines are, they can look flat in pictures. I think Jones' mylars are ribbed, but I'm not entirely sure.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 9604 Location: So. Cal | Here is my door panel. I verified that these are the original aqua door panels, but they have been painted over on all three sections. So keep that in mind. But the material in them is original. Location: Parts Unknown | Firedome/Firesweep armrests should be common to MANY of the lower end Mopar cars of the 57-59 years, ... maybe more ? Don't limit your search to just 58 Firedomes. The higher end models used built-in arm rests, so they won't translate, but the bolt-on jobs were much more common and should not be too hard to find.
