Do some more Googling on the net.
They don't rank high on most people's list who delt with them.

Get a warranty. I here they put on thin chrome. marc. I found this totaly at random...

Well, I can tell you that one firm I've heard of--BumperBoyz http://www.bumperboyz.com/ has a less than stellar reputation

http://www.fordmuscle.com/forums/galaxie-pages/469141-bumper-boyz.h...

A friend of mine had his 1966 Ford Galaxie Bumper rechromed there, and while it looked good for a while, it's starting to show some problems. This is on a car that lives in a garage, never sees rain or winter...and the chroming is only 3 years old! Next time, he says, he's staying local or using somebody with a better reputation.

But my goal here isn't to trash them, it is simply caveat emptor and to see where your chrome is going. Too many of our chrome plated pieces are too expensive to replace to put them in the hands of people who don't know what they are doing--and shipping things across national boundaries to save a buck is just plain foolish, IMHO.

Perhaps, if one lived in San Diego or so, and had the ability to take a visit to a shop down that way, perhaps it would add a comfort level to the situation.

Chrome plating IS expensive. If you can't afford it don't do it. If there isn't any reputable chrome platers in your area, call some of the restoration experts. It's funny how some of the same names keep showing up; these are the guys with good reputations.

N.B. Interestingly the same kind of nonsense happens in the piano rebuilding industry! Yes there are representatives throughout the USA who will ship your piano to SAMA in Juarez, Mexico http://www.samapiano.com/ for a rebuild. The results apparently, can be less than spectacular.

Know your plater!

They do mediocre work for average prices. Maybe OK for a driver but definitely not quality work by any stretch of the imagination. I suggest looking elsewhere. Plus, I hate the spelling "boyz".

There is an axiom that applies to all of life that fits this situation. "Do it Once, Do it Right". Like every chrome shop, you get the quality you pay for.

Thanks for all the response. I took the 59 Dodge bumpers to a local chrome shop. He called back the next day told me I should find another rear bumper as this one had been previously very poorly repaired and doing it again would not have good results. So have been trying to locate another bumper. John at Big M give me a lead, so will follow up on that today. Jerry

Friend of mine buys lots of bumpers from them and imports them to Finland. He has no own cores and anyway it would be stubid to ship bumpers twice over the atlantic.
BB got huge amounts of cores what other chromers dont. Before shipment He checks every single bumber in person at their facility and rejects the ones that are no good.
Sure he has to pay extra for the core but...
He is satisfied to this, his customers are satisfied and Bumber Boyz are satisfied. Infact they have invited him (us) next Pomona swap, we can leave our van to their spot. On of the workers even offered a place to stay overnight.
Friendly people I might say.

My Dad is on his 2nd bumper from them after a warrantee and it is having issues. I dont think they would do anything about it. They go to our local swap meet and my buddy was looking for a front for a 68 cutlass. We sorted thru their pile and none were any good. One even had alot of rust fall out of the box. Terrible. Definately look in person if you deal there.

Shoddy work, will peel prematurely. Probably not practical being in California but AMS Obsolete in Fairmount, GA does top notch work for less than Bumper Boyz, plus you for sure get the same bumper back.

We do a lot of potmetal restorations for Chevy nomads and more specifically liftgate frames . If anyone wants QUALITY chrome go ahead and email us Michaelbakotich@ca.rr.com expensive but no surprises . By far the best I've seen with potmetal or any chrome . My company is all about quality and American made .

We are actually fixing pieces that bumper boys screwed up . They remove old chrome by grinding it off, which is incorrect . We are restoring a set of 58 vette spears for the trunk . Bumper boys did a horrible job and we are correcting it for a customer In Germany

Run away .......Run AWAY.....

The most reliable, best quality bumper shop in the US is Tri City plating In Elizabethton Tenn.

They likely have a core for your car, and straighting is part of the process. Tripple plating, (BB skips the copper).

I sold tri city plating I think like 6 sets of Plymouth bumpers as deposits to get my front and rear rechromed on the cheap. They often hit up car shows. They can ship to you cheap. I think its like 70$ for a set of bumpers to ship? I love mine, great work.

I talked to them at a local show. They quoted me a very high price. When I questioned them, they stated that the price was high because my 61

Chrysler was a three part bumper. Knowlegeable people....

Tri city actually started posting their prices!  I don't think any other chromer on earth does that and they do great work.  The owner has a complete book, i hope they continue to add more prices.

I got my two sets of dodges done also.

http://www.tricityplating.com/bumper-cores-price-list/?_sfm_make=Plymouth&_sfm_primary_year_range=57-58

I got 50$ a bumper as a core(I think) or 75$? times 10 bumpers, 500$ off my plymouth bumpers from Tri City out of tennesee, and I dropped them off at a car show in Columbus, Ohio.

So i got my front and rear plymouth bumpers done for i think 400$ for both.

It wouldnt make sense to ship bumpers for that, you would need to visit Tri City at a car show to drop off.

On my '71 Charger, I got one bumper from Bumper Boyz and one from Tri-City. On my car, I found the quality comparable. Maybe I just got lucky, but I was very satisfied with both vendors.
